What's a steelbook?

I feel kind of dumb asking this since I've been on this site for some time and am also a big dvd/bluray collector, but I've alwayed notice people making a big deal about buying or wanting steelbook versions of movies....what exactly are they?

as far as i can tell, yes. amazon has dvd steelbooks you can buy fairly cheap. but only a few used blu-ray steelbooks. some of the cases are pretty cool too. its a shame they're so expensive

Then I don't really see much of a point of wanting a steelbook then. I usually think they are only on the special edition of the BD, but unless you don't want a cracked BD case, then its the perfect thing for you.

i could be wrong, wait till the man of steelbook comes in here, as i dont own any. but as far as i can tell from my research..same stuff..steel case
