Default bLU rAY ON sHARP x10 projector

I have a Sharp X10 projector that gives me great picture at 1080i for HD TV channel output over component.

Will I get 1080i output if i attach a Sony Blu Ray player over component?

The reason I am asking is becuse the Sharp X10 does not offer HDMI connectivity.

I use a special connecting wire which is 15 D sub on projector side and component on the other side.

Thanks

I would say you probably won't get 1080i output because:
  1. The Sharp X10 almost certainly displays progressive video, not interlaced.
  2. The X10 almost certainly does not resolve 1080 lines.
  3. The X10 probably doesn't de-interlace 1080i video without losing resolution.
  4. The X10 may not accept 1080i video over component - need to check manual.
  5. BD players won't output 1080i over component if the Image Constraint Token is enabled, which the film studios may decide to do in the future.
Otherwise you may be able to get better pictures than you've had before, but I don't think you can get 1080i output.

From the specs:
Native Resolution: 1024 x 768
Formats supported: 480i · 576i · 720p · 1080i · 1035i · 480p · 576p · 540p
It looks like you will be able to display 720p/1080i via component however it will scale it to the native resolution of the projector. (you might want to compare 720p output vs 1080i ouput to determine which one looks best on your pj).

Also like welwynnick pointed out if the Image Constraint Token is enabled, you won't be able to HD through component (the resolution will then be limited to 960x540). However I'm not sure if there is even a title out that has the token enabled.

Anyway I guess you're good to go right now... And if they decide to active the token later on, well I guess then it will be time for you to upgrade your projector!

Yeah, I think I would go with 720p. I expect that would look rather good, HDMI or not.
