What do you guys recommend? Is there any special formatting that I need to do to make it work?

Just a 5400 RPM laptop drive. The PS3 will format it once installed.

I think he was asking about an eternal HD not replacing the internal.

Oh, Well you can get any external. Must be formatted Fat32 I believe.

Just make sure to format it for FAT32 and create a similar folder structure as on the internal drive otherwise you will have to have the PS3 search for files.

The 4 folders are:
Picture
Music
Video
Game

Done!
