Welcome 300 is distributed by Warner. Warner does release movies on Blu-ray so it is probably safe to say that it will eventually be released.

I bet Warner will release it on HD-DVD first, they seem to do that with other titles as well and then release the Blu-Ray Disc version, but then again considering how popular 300 is, maybe they will release it in both formats at the same time, I hope.

The Departed was released on both at the same time. I bet 300 will be too.

I'm almost certain that Warner will use IME on this title. So hopefully PiP software and player would be ready by then.

I'd say it will be released at the same time as the HD-DVD as with Happy Feet, The Departed..

That's the big thing here, whether or not they use IME w/ it. The popularity isn't as big a deal. Look at the other comic book (and graphic novel, if we're going for semantics) adaptations Warners has released, Batman Begins and V for Vendetta. Both used IME, and even though Batman did a great job at the theaters, they're still waiting for IME before both of those titles come out for Blu-ray.

They'll want to use IME, as I bet they want the PiP to show you what the actors were really doing, ie. the blue screen footage will be in the small picture, showing the movie before any effects were added.
So, pray, do whatever you need to do to help get PiP ready to go by August, which is when 300 will be out. There's no firm release date yet, but the last issue of Home Media Magazine said it will be in August.

i'll just quote from a Warner press release:

Quote:
WHV Announces New Blu-ray & HD DVD Titles
Source: Warner Home Video

Warner Home Video has announced the release of seven new high definition titles on October 10. Making their debut on HD DVD are Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory two uniquely different versions of the story about a boy who discovers a magical world after finding the winning golden ticket in a bar of chocolate. In addition, making their HD DVD debuts are Batman Begins and two animated titles: Tim Burton's Corpse Bride and The Polar Express. Making their Blu-ray Disc debut will be Syriana and 16 Blocks.

Batman Begins and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory make their HD DVD debut with In-Movie Experience (IME), the interactive feature allowing viewers to enjoy new ways of accessing interviews and other material -- while the movie is running. The IME for Batman Begins gives viewers a window into director Christopher Nolan's personal journey bringing a new look and new direction to Batman, illustrated with comics, cast comments and behind the scenes footage that gives each scene new meaning. The IME for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory offers rare glimpses into director Tim Burton's creative process, scene by scene, that is at once insightful and turned on its head with comic Oompa Loompa interjections, unexpected chocolate fun facts and pop-ups.
What differences do we find in movies on Blu-ray? mmm more uncompressed soundtracks, sharper more natural film picture, and just because of the studio support of the format, more variety. (just check the Apocalist sticky to see how many)
