Default Advice on old "FISHER" speakers

Today i was wondering and cleaning my garage when i stumbled upon a pair of old stereo speaker my dad use to own in the early 90's. The brand is called Fisher and the model number is stv-9628. I hooked them up and they sounded alright for some early 90's stereo speaker, of course they did not sound as good as my Reference 82's, but They sound good nevertheless. Now my question is, can i use thees speakers for surrounds, so i can purchase the the rc-62 and complete my 5.1 system? or should i purchase some up-to-date bookshelf speakers? this would save me a lot of money by the way. The speaker also have some damage to them like one of the 8 inch woofer has a dent, but sound no different than the other which does not, and still sounds great. here are some pics; thank you all.

here is a pic of the speakers with out any grills

these speakers are about 20 years old now.

here is a picture from the back of the speakers showing the specs.

Here is some damage to one of the woofers. they still sound great.

Here is also a little bit of damage to one of the tweeter, but still sounds great.

Yes, you can use them for surrounds. You may also be able to replace the damaged tweeter. Check Parts Express.

Ahhh! I was about to say that! Reclamation project! Go to partsexpress.com like pops suggested and pick up some new tweeters, midranges, and woofers, and perhaps a new finish, and install them! Fairly easy to take out and replace drivers! Clean em up! Overkill as surrounds, sure, but - reclaim them from death first!

thanx for the advice guys.
although one of the speaker has damage to its woofer, i will not change it unless it makes a big of a difference. does it?

Everything is relative. Read Upgrading Subwoofers & Speakers thread. Some of us are crazy enough to spend a lot of money for a small difference in sound quality. We suffer from a disease called Upgraditis.
