Default Is it possible?

Knowing that a very sophisticated computer lies at the heart of the PS3. Plus the relative ease in which updates can be applied, would it be feasible for a multi region Blu-ray or DVD upgrade to be applied to the console? After all Multi region DVD upgrades are available for some players in Europe (Sony S350/ S550) Is any one aware of even any rumoured Multi-region upgrades for the PS3? I apologise if this point has been raised before its just with many Zone B exclusives (Leon, Fight Club) available it would be nice not to have to purchase 2 different Zone BD players when 1 would suffice.

There's no legal way to circumvent the region coding on a PS3.

There are reports floating about that there exists a method to pull Blu-ray movie content from a disc onto a Linux partition on a PS3 and then play it back on a PC, but even that is excessively quasi-legal, though I suspect that would sidestep the region coding barrier.
