Default Jury duty!

So I have jury duty tomorrow for the first time...

And as if that doesn't suck enough, I was out from work today because I've been sick the last couple of days.

Is there a way to call out sick? Should I just show them how sick I am when I get there? lol

Sure, lol. Another thing you can do is prove your mentally unstable... I would just go in there and start saying he's guilty, IDC... He's guilt as sin!

You can get out of it. I've managed to postpone Jury Duty 3 times on the same call-in. I've been postponing since September. First off, my boss postponed it. Then I postponed it. The 3rd time I went to Jury Duty then they had little cards that you had to fill out if you wanted to postpone. So I did it again. Now I am on day 4 of day 5 of not having to be called in AGAIN... I have to call tomorrow night and if they dont call me I'm home free!!! Just go in and ask for a postponement.

Jury duty really was all that bad when I went. I was actually surprised because I was BY FAR the youngest person there. I was 21 at the time and landed a red light ticket case.

As for your question , I think you should be able to get out of it IF you have too.

Jury duty ? that must be very annoying !
If I were you I'd get even by giving him the chair no matter who he is or what he did !
The chair I say !

Had jury duty once years ago. Got selected as an alternate. Chunky had been accused of shooting Fats, who ended up partially paralyzed. It was a total joke. Almost all of the witnesses called by the prosecution testified that one of the other witnesses shot Fats. Needless to say, case dismissed after a day.

Look on the bright side, you may end up sequestered on a high profile trial and get a multimillion dollar book deal next year.

Some people get selected for JD more than others. When I lived in the county south of the one I live in now, I got selected 5 times in 8 years, while my friends never got selected once.

Thank goodness I no longer live in that county! I'm all for doing your civic duty, but COME ON!

I had jury duty in 2005, and I wasn't selected for the jury so it only took the morning. I was very grateful because it was the first week of school and I would have been screwed if I had to miss significant class time. If you try to call in sick it will just get postponed and you will still have to go in.

You should be able to call and have it pushed back. In all the years of having to go sit there all day, I've only once ever been in a court room and was quickly dismissed. Waste of time but you have to do it at some point.

I just got my notice for jury duty for Feb. 4th. It'll be the 3rd time in 9 years I've been called, I must've ticked off someone in the government.

I actually don't mind it too much. I've never been actually put on a jury and the room I've waited in had comfy chairs and played movies all day. It's not a vacation, but it's bearable.

Jury duty is a privilege all should experience.I've found that once people accept that their day/s/week are blown, they take it seriously and enjoy themselves.

The acceptance is the hard part.

If your unemployed it's find... But who's going to want to take time of work and loose a day's worth of pay, because some idiot stoled a TV?

I didn't say that people want to do it. I said that once they accept its fact, it is usually a pleasant experience, from what I've seen.

And the law protects employees, generally speaking. Self-employed and hourlies are screwed.

You don't take time off work. You get paid and it's not taken out of your vacation time...which is even hotter.

But you don't get paid much? Some earlier in this thread said it's like $10 a day for my state. I am sorry, but for a majority of American's. That is about an hours work. Now for being being unemployed, I would be there in a heart beat.
