I was hoping you could tell me the best software for playing blu ray disks in your opinion, is there a favourite?

PowerDVD from Cyberlink. We dont have a lot of choices unfortunately. I personally use MPC with various external filters but you need one extra piece of software for it to work.

PowerDVD is good. I have used it extensively for DVDs.

VAIO laptop came with WinDVD BD and (after the update) does a good job.
Works with the remote too!

Cyberlink Power DVD also works great!

A would be very much interested in hearing about burning software, something similar to Nero. I do have several hdtv mpeg 2 files that I'd like to see on my hd screen. Any suggestions which program to use to burn it in such a way that I can play it on my sony bdp-s1?

Those are for viewing, I have Ulead BD Disc Recorder and Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 for burning.
