Ozz,
Personally, I have never used an equalizer. I have always let the system run flat with no adjustments. Others will have to guide you on a selection. But, consider, every time you add something like this into your system, you will in all likelihood degrade the overall sound of the components and the sound of your system. Rich |

Hi ozzman,
I have to agree with Rich on this one. Running your system flat is the best option. Having said that, there are recordings out there that leave a lot to be desired and the introduction of an EQ could potentially benefit you for getting the type of sound you want. If you really are set on getting an EQ I would suggest only applying its functions for less than optimum recorded media. Otherwise run it flat! John |

I am going to offer a bit of opposite advice than the others. No speaker sitting in a room is going to offer a flat response even with the tone controls set to flat, or no tone controls at all. Below 250hz EQ is VERY necessary, as the non electrical acoustical tools to handle acoustical issues at these frequencies are extremely large and bulky, and take up alot of room. Also the most critical audible problems that occur in small rooms, occur at frequencies below 250hz.
While my speakers have an outstanding frequency response in the anechoic chamber, once you put them in my room, below 200hz things get a bit rough, and EQ was needed to flatten out the response. This Tapco EQ is very good for the main channels, but the subwoofer requires something a little more intricate than 1/3 octave EQ. 1/6 octave EQ is preferred for the subwoofer. While many feel that they are getting a more pure sound without EQ, the opposite is actually true. They are hearing more effects of the room resonances without EQ, than when corrected with EQ. Removing the room resonances actually gives you a more pure sound. |
