Default are there any video cards out tere

that do hdmi?
I know my laptop has an hdmi output.... are there cards out there that do it, and do they handle sound as well, or do they rely on your soud card to generate sound?

Here's a list of cards that have HDMI built in:

Native HDMI

While these use an adapter:

HDMI Via Adapter

It all depends on what display you'll be using. For a HDTV or home theater receiver HDMI would be the way to go, while using a soundcard output might be better if you use a PC monitor and speakers/headphones.

Alot of ati cards have issues with sound passing to a reciever, i have yet to get my ati card to work with my onkyo 806, go search hdmi on ati's forums if u need proof.

I bought an ati card cause i was psyched it had the hdmi out via the adapter and could pass sound through it, but annoyed when i found out its a pain to actually get it working, if at all

Just because a card has HDMI does not mean it has sound hardware or sound passthrough capability. I'm not even sure ANY Nvidia cards have their own sound hardware----though I could be and am hopefully wrong about that.

Most of ATI's 4000 series have sound hardware.
