Default Cable vs. Satellite.

I did a search and did not find anything. I thought I saw a discussion in ref to Cable service Vs. Satellite service and was looking for some feedback. I am looking to get rid of my current Cable provider (Comcast) and switch to satellite (Direct TV). I am looking for some pros and cons as well. I will also be doing a bundle package to include going from Cable Internet service to DSL and looking for some input on that as well. Any help would be great.

If you have (more or less) already decided to switch, why the poll?

I prefer Comcast cable as there is no grey salad bowl attached to my house and no STB reciever.
Standard cable service(Extended Basic) is all I have. No cable box.
Wall - cable - TV.
I even get the locals in HD for free.

DSL will be slower depending on service - and DSL requires POTS wiring and maybe POTS service - both of which I do not have.

I use Comcast for phone, TV, and HSI. Works out great! *FOR ME*

I have directv and I am happy with it. It is less expensive and has more hd channels than comcast. The only thing that comcast has over directv in my opinion is on demand.

Someday, I may get that with the HD package.
Comcast Channel 1 is actually a pretty good idea.

My bill went from $157/month with comcast to over $210/month...

They are soooo toast for the phone and the TV...too bad that the ONLY internet service available to me is Comcast - I have to stick with them until Fios gets rolled out in my neighborhood

I prefer satellite. The picture has always looked clearer to me and has always been cheaper then the local cable company. With the channels I am getting, cable would charge me around $10-15 more for the same thing, and crappier picture quality. Satellite all the way.

I could not agree more. Satellite MPEG-4 is outstanding compared to cable. I have seen cable vs sat and satellite wins 100%. I use my basic cable feed to slingbox to my home PC.

What I would like is a cable or satelite system that allows you to pick the channels you wish to have instead of these retarded bundles you have to have with channels you will never watch.

I've been a Directv member for several years but, am getting alot of info about AT&T's Uverse. Was wondering if anyone is on it and what they think. Apparently it is supposed to be all fiber optic and have better quality HD than satelite. I'm pretty skeptic as they don't have a very good track record with me for the services they already provide. Dumped them as my cell carrier, and am considering doing the same for my internet provider as they can't provide the service they claim they can and are charging me for. But, switching to fiber optic would be a step and on a different system. Not that I have any complaints about Directv but, if it is cheaper to role everything into one, I wouldn't mind saving a bit of money.

Depending on where you are, it may be fiber or it may be VDSL.

If your only two options are cable and satellite, it is a no brainer to go with satellite unless very fast internet speeds are important to you. The disparity is not as great as it used to be though and satellite's pricing has been creeping higher (Directv just announced another price hike in March), but overall the experience is better on satellite. Fiber is obviously the best solution but availability is limited and Verizon Fios has major billing problems.

I think the real point is - do you really want to give more money to Comcast?
