Default Tannoy Speakers

So I was told to keep this kind of hush-hush because it is official but has not been officially announced... but this is pretty exciting news for me and anyone living in western Canada.

London Drugs will be carrying Tannoy speakers in the near future. Our buyers are still talking price with Tannoy but we've been told to expect them sooner than later.

Anyone who doesn't know about Tannoy, it is one old speaker company, over 80 years old.

They make several lines of speakers, and judging by price point I'd estimate we'll be carrying one or two of the Mercury Custom, Revolution or Revolution Signature lines.

The one thing that really struck me was their GORGEOUS super tweeters, as well as their Prestige lineup... truly amazing looking equipment.

yes amazing looking, incredible sounding but incredibly overpriced

Like Giorgio Armani with Tannoy at least 50% of the purchase price goes into paying for the pedigree

well... hate to say it but 99% of brands have atleast 50% markup on speakers... but yeah I'll have to wait and see what we get in to see if they'll sell as well as Jamo has sold for us, or as well as Klipsch is.

I bought a high end sound system about 17 years ago that included two Tannoy Sixes (6o9), a Rotel 2 channel preamp and power amp, and a Rotel CD player. The Tannoy Sixes have 8" dual concentric woofers. When I first got started in HT, I tried hunting down four more of them to make a 6.1 sytem. But I couldn't find a single pair anywhere.

A few years ago I started buying Energy Speakers to build an HT system. In the mean time I sold the Rotel equipment as soon as I posted the ads. I tried selling the Tannoys, but nobody even inquired about them. My ads just kept expiring.

So after I got my 5.1 Energy system setup, I did try using them as auxillary L/R fronts for listening to my CDs. But, I have to confess, the Energy speakers especially my tower speakers did circles around the Tannoys in sound quality, detail, and width of the sound stage. I just ended up listening to my CDs though the Energy speakers more since the sound was so much better.

Now, I am extremely happy that I didn't find four more Tannoys to make a 6.1 system. I really like my Energy 7.1 HT system. I don't think the Tannoys would have even matched the Energy speakers in sound quality. Both Energy and Tannoys have a warm sweet sound. However, the highs and midrange are more detailed and dispersed coming from the Energys. The Tannoys seem to beam the highs too much for my liking. The sound stage is also narrower compared to the Energys.

So now, my Tannoys are still waiting for a buyer.
