Here is a little fact that you should know about us, the consumers.
consumers are pawns in a chess game, corporations like sony, and toshiba keep going at it confusing the consumers. I know of people who own both BD and HD, and they buy both. each corp. has its own strategy, for example sony forces its consumers to buy only BD equipped systems like the ps3, while Toshiba and microsoft gives people the option of either you buy an HD dvd disc and dvd in one for in case you own an HD DVD in the future or buy an HDDVD player or the add on for 360. each strategy has its advantage and side effect. But both have proven to be effective one way or the other. when saying Universal will go neutral, which i doubt will happen anytime soon, I AM SORRY TO SAY I DON'T BELIEVE IT. Universal will lose a lot of money and time invested for HD DVD. what i expect is another strategy to lure consumers into the technology. Now again, consumers are nothing but pawns. Now don't get me wrong I love watching movies in Hi defenitions, I own both xbox360 and PS3, both systems are great, but I don't see myself spending all that money all over the place. What i think should be done is both HD and BD working together and cut all the running around in circle. |

is it because they both deliver 1080p? is it because one belongs to sony and the other toshiba? or is it something to do with security? they both deliver the same thing. if not when you say BD has 50 GB, then HD developed the 51 GB. again, i remind you that i own BD MOVIES, and i have seen what HD offers. Dude, this is all marketing. just big names associated with large corps. besides, can you tell what is the difference between both technologies because i would love to know. I am a consumer, and i want to know what benefits me and more economic for me to spend money on. |

Exactly, and if that were the ultimate strategy then why not just start there in the first place. Too much money has been spent and BD now has the large advantage. There is no reason to concede anything at this point fromt he Blu-ray side.

MS gave people the choice to buy HD DVD, hence they didn't twist the consumer's arms to Buy and HDDVD add on for the 360. obviously, you the consumer had to decide whether to purchase or not. buying a PS3 is forcing the technology on people"YOU BUY A PS3, IT IS STRICTLY USED FOR BD". DUDE, i have no problem with BD, and HDDVD, they both deliver what i want but think about it from an economic perspective. this is after all a business and IT IS STRICTLY BUSINESS. |

Sony put a blu-ray drive in their PS3 because they believe nex-gen gaming will make use of the increased disc space, and is giving developers 50gb to work with instead of 8.5gb. I never complained when the PS2 or xbox forced a dvd player on me. ![]() Your main complaint is forced technology - and well, I hate to be the one to inform you, but all closed architectures are forced technology. The xbox 360 is forced technology, the ps3 is forced technology, the wii is forced technology. The difference between strategies is clear - Microsoft / hd-dvd, they are giving people limited technological advances to keep costs at a minimum. Sony / blu-ray is giving people more advanced products at the expense of higher costs. Last edited by dakota81; 05-11-2007 at 07:24 AM. |

Whether the capacity is a factor, will remain to be seen. But, Microsoft haven't given anyone a choice of whether they wanted one game disc or flip between 3-4, nor have they given people a choice of HD DVD or Blu-ray add-ons. They haven't managed to give the people the choice of HD audio even when they offer a choice of an HDMI version of the Xbox 360. Gary |

Whoa, guys take it easy. I am not hatin' on sony. as a matter of fact i use and enjoy what my ps3 offers. all i complaining about is the fact that video game hardwares should intended for video games. instead, both Sony and MS are really way more BD and HD movies than games. I didn't spend money on systems like playstation or xbox to be a pawn in a chess game. where i must either choose HD, or BD movies. I spent the money to play games.

they aren't forcing you to choose either. sony is offering you the option to purchase BR movies. however, they are forcing you to buy BR games because of the larger sizes required for next gen gaming. microshaft was too shortsighted on higher capacity discs and graphics, gameplay, and/or length will suffer. you can easily play games without any of the other fanfare. you are just including it.

I spend money on systems like the PS3 to get the best gaming experience possible. That means the best sound, best graphics, even the best prerendered video if the developer chooses to use it. By using the highest capacity disk format available, Sony haven't limited developers ability to store the assets needed for the really high-end next-gen games coming out in the next six years.
Given the choice, many publishers - even Nintendo won't go multi-disk. Take Super Mario Sunshine for example, really awful quality FMV because of the lack of storage. I also want Blu-ray movies, and PS3's a great player at an incredible price for the two main functions. |

Without a size constraint, decisions can be made toward grandeur, and the time usually spent trying to cut things down to fit can be used to improve the gameplay. Are you saying you can say without any reservation that DVD-7.5 is sufficient for any gaming you think would be intriguing this generation? Gary |

MS twisted yor arm you to buy DVD and be stuck with less game content for the next 5 years and then twisted your arm to pay again for another drive to get hidef. Hardly a choice. The blu-ray drive isn't just for BD DUDE. It plays all my DVD's, CD's, etc as well. That's choice and convenience. So from an economic point of view it's in my favour and that is good business - instead of "forcing" me to buy multiple drives with a snakes nest of cables hanging out the back. |

one can deliver High Definition movies in half to 2/3rds the video bitrate and 60% of the storage space of the other. Not the same to me, when we're trying to capture 35mm film. (btw that was the same difference in number quoted between Laserdiscs and pre-recorded consumer 1/2" tape formats) Both didn't deliver the same thing ![]() Quote:
As BD developed the 200GB, must be about the same amount of movies in BD 200 as in HD 51: X Sorry but I don't like fud cease and desist |

GIVE ME ONE TITLE IN BD THAT GIVES 50GB? OR 200GB? ALL I NEED TO KNOW WHY BD IS THE ULTIMATE, AND NOT HD? THINK IF I AM THE CONSUMER, HOW WILL YOU BE ABLE TO CONVINCE ME BD IS BETTER THAN HD, OR HD BETTER THAN BD? THIS IS MY QUESTION? I from knowledge know that both offer 1080p, true HD, and DTS HD in sound. Convince me, why should i choose BD over HD? or the other way around Last edited by Lord_Stewie; 05-11-2007 at 07:58 AM. |
