Default Exisitng Blu-Ray Players obselete end of year?

Hi
I have a UK PS3 and i think blu ray is fanatastic
I read home cinema choice magazine and another ps 3 magazine. Both are saying that the current blu ray players are going to be obselete. As another blu ray format is arriving is it blu ray java or something like that and none of the blu ray players will not run this new format. Yikes

Hope this is not true

There are some small features, Picture in Picture and internet connectivity, that will be in newer players. Some older players may be able to be updated to add these features. But even if they can't be updated, they'll still play movies just fine, you just won't be able to access those particular aspects of special features on newer discs. It wouldn't worry me as I hardly ever watch the special features.

Relax, your PS3 will not be obsolete for at least ten years, and whilst there may be newer features introduced on Blu-ray over the years (as Nuts quite rightly said), a BD player bought right at the start will not fail to play a Blu-ray film.

If you buy a classic CD player - one of the first models from eBay, you'll be able to play your brand new CDs with no problem. The coding standard on CD hasn't changed and it's unlikely that Blu-ray will.

Just enjoy it.

Features features features...

If you are happy with the current players, buy one.
If not, wait. In the end, it's your choice.

I think you get me wrong but all consumers pay through the nose for latest equipment which we are told is sort of future proof. Then told obselete. Sony PS 3 £400 ok good price for a Blu Ray player and Games Machine but this sholud be future proof. There must know its there Format

Sony Etc Stop Ripping Us OFF

I suppose Sony will give us a refund when there have updated the Ps3 I dont think so
