Default Sammy 58 - Post 100 Hours

Well, I haven't really been counting the hours but I am definitely beyond the 100 hour mark right now. I do think I could have turned down the settings a little during the break in. Brightness was 48, contrast 85, cell light 6. but too late obviously.

I do get very frequent image retention which in some cases happens very quickly but it always goes away as fast as it came so I'm kinda getting use to that. I'm very careful of seeing an image right before watching a blu-ray with bars on top/bottom. I'll usually run the white screen for a minute to clear it before movie.

Anyway, now that I'm past the 100 hours, what does this mean? Is it safe to turn up the settings a little..increasing a little at a time? Or because I get frequent retentino, should I actually turn them down? Black Bars, static images, I think I can worry less about?

i'm holding out for Calibration for my basement to get finished since lighting will change drastically down there. Thoughts on this theory of mine? Should I wait or if I do it now does lighting even matter?

Well, if you look on AV forums for settings, they will often say to turn UP the cell light (to 10) and contrast when breaking in plasma sets. BUT they will say, if you are following common break-in procedure, you need full-screen images (1.85, not 2:40 aspect ratio), with no static images (like network logos or HUDs on video games). I have a Sammy 510 50 inch, and I broke it in with JPEGs of color scales on a loop, and did it for 200 plus hours and have absolutely no IR. None. I can watch hours of movies with 2:40 ratio and there is no dark images at the top or bottom afterwards. I would recommend some more time breaking in (get to 200-250 hours), and upping your cell light. Make sure you have good images, either a disc on a loop or a JPEG slideshow.
