Severe pricing issue with BD-R 50 GB

The 25GB ones are like $3.75 to $39.28 a disc, which, at the lower end, ain't bad. However, the cheapest 50GB writables are $20.99 a disc. I mean, that doesn't make sense. Veribatim has a 25GB for $6.30 and $6.49 a disc, but their 50GB is $20.99 a disc. Wouldn't common sense point out that the 50 GB shouldn't be more than $12. Does anyone know why consumers are getting ripped off like this?

And we wonder why Blu-Ray movies cost so much.

At this time I wouldn't even buy a BD-R for $12. You can buy the original discs for a few dollars more and it comes with all the bells and whistles. Blu ray is all about quality and if you compress and burn it, you will lose the quality. Even now, I don't think the Dual layer dvd-r is cost efficient because you did buy the original for almost the same price. JMO.

DVDs are $0.25 each but DL DVDs are $1.00 or more.
That never made sense either.

Even though the BD-R is expensive it at least offers the ability to record an HD video with a long time frame. What is possibly a good deal is the use of BD-RE since you never finalize the disc it could be used as a good medium for backing up a lot of files you generate at various times, such as photographs.

One thing to note is that the OP was talking about dual layer and I believe the ability of that disc type to be written on a multilayer level may require it to be manufactured differently. If in the future they sell multilayer BD writers and we can write many 25GB layers, as the media standard allows, buying a multilayer disc that can hold 300+GB of data for $20 won't be a bad deal. Then volume buying might bring those prices in line as well.

IMO, Blu-ray movies aren't expensive due to the media cost, it is just because they can charge that much for it and we still buy them to get the enhanced quality. I doubt that the actual media costs more than 25 cents for a mass produced movie. The packaging probably costs more than the actual disc.
