Default How often do you blind-buy?

Just wondering how often people blind-buy movies, and what their reasons for why or why not?

Sometimes I just feel like taking a chance on a new movie. I have cut back from my dvd days as BD's cost so much more at this point. I would blind buy more movies if new prices were a little lower.

I know my taste pretty well and I can usually tell from a preview if I'm going to like a movie. So I blind buy quite often those movies I know i'll like and
I just never had time to see at the theater. Another reason is if a certain actor or actress is in it then I know the movie will entertain me. Like Ed Norton and Keira Knightley movies are always good in my opinion b/c I like them a lot so I usually pick up their flicks.

I usually read reviews on here and other places. A lot of times, if the film has 4.5 - 5.0 in the sound department, that becomes a major deciding factor. For awhile, I was pretty hesitant to get Hellboy 2 as I didn't like the first one. I found one on e-bay for $10 brand new and went ahead. Watched it last night, the sound literally rocked my house.

Pretty much all new movies for me are blind-buys.
I don't go to the theater.
When I get a movie, it's usually the first time I see it...

I'm the same way, I know if I'll like a movie for the most part. If it gets bad reviews I'll rent it from netflix, then decide. I only buy movies if I will watch them multiple times.

Cool

I did blind buys on my last six titles

Body of Lies, Boondock Saints, Let The Right One In, Pride and Glory, Quarantine, and Watchmen motion comic

I enjoyed every one of them, but its because of this site's info and word of mouth I blind buy so often. So far I haven't been too disappointed

It costs too much for today's economy - hard to take chances with $25 or more.

I've blind bought every now and then. I'll be blind buying Quantum of Solace and Bold this month...almost want to blind buy Role Models, but I'll probably Netflix that one.

I blind-buy movies practically all the time. Reasons being...
  • Heard nothing but good things. Or maybe it's a familiar-sounding title.
  • Comes from a filmmaker (or maybe an actor or studio) I like.
  • Comes from a distributor I like (such as the Criterion Collection).
  • Comes as a high-quality Blu-Ray, or has really good packaging.
  • Has a promising-looking cover or write-up on the back.
The extent to which all of these rules apply also depends on the price. If a movie's less than $5, I might just grab any ol' thing. I blind-buy most good or reputable movies priced $15 or less. If it's more than $20, then it'd have to be something really promising.

I think the most I ever spent on a blind-buy was $50, for the "Inception" briefcase edition. It fulfilled all of the above criteria, and was worth it.

Now, I promised myself that I'd never blind-buy anything over $30 again.

I blind buy a decent amount because I almost never go to the movies nowadays. The last movie I saw in the theater was Toy Story 3 and that was mainly because I had a free ticket, but I might go to Scream 4 this weekend. I will be blind buying the new Harry Potter sometime this weekend. I usually stick with well-reviewed movies for blind buys.

Pretty much all the time, and there's only a couple movies in my collection I don't really like. Quite happy with my decisions so far.

Not often. For years my mate had always been saying how Enemy of the State is very underrated, so two weeks ago I picked it up along with The Strangers (both blind buys) and both are very good shows. I really enjoyed Enemy of the State. Indeed underrated.

In general I don't blind buy. However there are releases from scream factory I'd like to check out before buying but I have trouble finding ways to watch them. I've been able to hold off the temptation but as more "complete" my collection gets the fewer movies I'm buying or interested in so I might take some more risks knowing I could sell them here
