Default ps3 boot up problem

i posted this on the official ps3 board and thought id post it here too

so my ps3 has been working fine (it is the old 80 gig from motorstorm bundle) up until tonight. its been at my apartment except for when i go home from break from school. this past week i was home and it was working fine. i got back here earlier today, plugged it back in and it booted up fine. now when i turn it on i hear the start up music and get the wavy lines across the screen but no xmb. the wavy lines stay there and nothing happens. ive booted up with a game in the tray already, booted up by inserting a game but neither of these work. tried a hard reset and still nothing. when i hold the power button down to go to standby the green light just continues to blink and it beeps a few seconds later but never fully goes to standby

please someone help!!! i cant play metal gear or watch any of my movies without my ps3!!!!

I know this is of no help... but...

I did read what you wrote, so you're not being ignored. I just have no clue what you should do... You've done what I would suggest.

Files on your hard drive are corrupted.

Use the hidden recovery menu.

What he says. Turn off the PS3, then press and hold the on button and you should get the recovery menu. Unfortunately this is probably going to format your HDD and therefore you'll lose your saved stuff (unless you've conveniently backed up in the last couple of days).

Similar thing happened to my brother, but he never got to the intro music or wavy lines, just a blank screen.
