Hi i'm craig, and i'm a HT-holic.
![]() I started out a long time ago, and have had a lot of gear pass through my lounge. It's been a great journey from which i've learnt so much by trial and error, mostly by error, but we wont go there. I came to this forum to learn about blu and to pass on a little of the knowledge i have of the audio side. I had a passion for music from quite a young age thanks to relatives with good equipment. By chance i walked into a hifi shop that had a polk audio SRT set-up and going, and this is where it truly began. I fell in love instantly, but a baby on the way, and a sensible wife, and of course the price-tag ruled out any chance of me taking them home. I left with a pair of RT10's, and the memory of "that" demo. FFWD 13yrs and many polk models later chasing the sound from "that" demo. I had waited and waited for a pair to come up locally (i later found out only 5 pairs were imported) but to no avail. Then a pair turn up on Craigslist (ironic? lol) for 800o.b.o . They needed a bit of work, they got beat up by fedex and weren't packaged very well. I put a lot of TLC into the finish, and am really happy with the results. I really feel as though i'm done now , and that the journey has come to an end. I did contemplate updating to a newer receiver but ended up upgrading the power amp. As a bonus of having 6 ch of amplification i removed the plate amps from the subs. I'm glad i did this which IMO has made a bigger improvement than a HD receiver could've made. It's nice to not have that urge to change anything anymore. I'm completely happy with music and movies, it really is performance without limits, that's quite happy to serenade you at -35db late at night. My only current gripe, would have to be the room. I have a remedy for that though, we're currently considering building/buying a new home. I will put a little effort into cable management (wallplates?) and power supply (dedicated 20amp supply). I did start to tidy up the cables but it really is hard hiding triple runs of speaker cables and a power cord that doesn't bend. |

Yes i felt truly guilty, even though i paid the full asking price. It was a win/win situation i guess, and he had them on there for 34 days without even a query!!! It was the biggest risk i have ever taken, how many would send a Check to another country???

I agree they are ridiculous. They took a lot of getting used too, that's for sure. The soundstage is truly colossal, it's like a wall of sound. I used dual centers because the soundstage is so big that all the other speakers in the room are simply lost. It's been a bit of a trade-off position wise as they perform better for movies when they are wider, as opposed to music which need to be a little closer together to make the most of the imaging. Just to give you an idea of their bass performance ; Music setting - Denon pure direct bass level = 0 control center = -14db Movie setting - Denon = 0 control center = 0 db (could do with lowering) The original specs quoted 120db @ 30hz with a cut-off at 16hz. I have since removed the plate amps and am feeding them 400w @ 8ohms (subs are 4ohm), and the difference is like night and day. Its better quality (tighter and seems deeper), and there's twice as much bass than with the plate amps. Last edited by SRTCraig; 03-16-2009 at 01:55 AM. |
