Default Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN 2 Strays Even Farther From the Original

Quote:
[Zombie will be] making even more changes for the sequel. H2: Halloween 2 will be devoid of any hint of the original Halloween theme music created by Carpenter. ”We’re going to have to find a really sort of dissident ambient score,” Zombie told MTV Movies Blog. “[Something] unsettling rather than the traditional score which seemed too grand and too musical.”

Along with changing the classic movie, Zombie is making substantial changes to his characters as well. Basically, everyone has gone a little crazier. ”Really the movie is all about people who have kind of gone crazy, and they’re all dealing with their with their insanity in different ways. Laurie was the withdrawn character, and now she’s sort of the outgoing crazy character. Annie was more outgoing, now she’s very much almost like agoraphobic, afraid to leave the house. Sheriff Brackett is a wreck, looks he’s like one year from retiring so he can just go to the funny farm. Dr. Loomis is in complete denial about everything, and exploiting the situation and making as much money as possible while hating himself.” Of course, with everyone else going insane, that only leaves room for Myers to go even crazier than ever.

I never saw his remake and I don't intend to. Some movies just shouldn't be remade IMO and Halloween was one of them. Who here liked/disliked the first? Are you excited about a second?

The first Zombie Halloween wasnt good enough for a sequel, and how could he change the original carpenter theme music, it was creepy enough for me.

I liked the first one but don't like that he is changing the theme song that is what made halloween. Ill still see the new one but will not have high expectations.

They do it because they want to be "creative". Of course I think that's a bit ironic when they're doing a REMAKE.

I will see it at midnight lol. Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 OH WAIT I mean House of 1000 corpses had its moments but ultimately was a copy almost directly of a certain movie....lol...Devils Rejects was my favorite thing that he did completely original and all his own doing. Halloween (Rob Zombies) was not on par with the original but for what is was I enjoyed it very much and I liked the Michael Myers in his movie being more of a monster and brutal than he was stalker creepy in the original. This new film will be interesting it can go either one of two ways...Lets hope its the brutal intense unstoppable Myers and not some kinda of metal game to try to get him to turn normal or some crap like that. I hope he can explain how Myers survived being shot in the head as well, cause I am curious myself as to that.

I didn't care for the first one, but from the early pics I've seen and listening to Zombie's last few comments I get a little more intrigued each time.

I like the fact though that it isn't a direct sequel. It can be a fresh take on old characters.

The remake was alright, nothing great. I mainly own the BD for the 4 hour making of doc, which is a pretty neat watch. As for John Carpenters theme, isn't it just a rockin' albeit crap version of it in the Halloween remake?

The sequel could be interesting.

thats the only thing that looks interesting enough to see it making the characters more creepy aka giving it a Zombie feel such as House of 1000 Corpses and The Devils Rejects which were great movie, so hopefully he can make Michael Myers as creepy as those characters!

Those characters aren't creepy. Just trashy Leatherface wannabes.

Michael Myers - a cold and calculating killing machine for no apparent reason.

Michael Firefly - had a bad childhood and is now taking his anger out on the world to appease his angst.

I like that they're not going to use the theme music. I felt like they should have avoided using it during the first one. For me anyway, I couldn't get past comparing it to the original at first and I didn't like it in that regard. Once I got past that, and just took the movie on its own, I liked it better. The theme music still gave me issues though so I think it'll be easier to think of it as a different movie in this one.

He should just go a head and name this HINO II. Zombie is a hack and has proven he can't provide a good quality movie. They are all the same. He was the wrong guy for the Halloween remake, and this sequel looks like it will make TCM: TNG look like the Godfather.

You know I'm right there with you, in total honesty I am a massive fan of thr Halloween franchise and have been since I was a kid, it is the only horror franchise where I enjoyed nearly all of the movies. But when I first saw Halloween in theaters I did what almost everyone else here did, kept thinking of the original the whole time and making comparisons, and I hated it.

A year went by and it came out on blu and it was a different cut, with some really big differences to it, and you know what upon 2nd viewing I loved it! There is something about Zombie's work you either get or you don't. I know all the guys here have the absolute greatest taste of all time, and such film as anything Zombie touches isn't up to par with their standards! Yet, most of them probably own Harold and Kumar 2, so it's really just a matter of opinion, lol.

I'm just know speaking for myself, I have been a fan of Zombie's since I was 12 and bought Hellbilly Deluxe, and to make things extra warped since this was a christmas gift, it has become by staple for Christmas, it is the only album I will play during christmas time, as I absolutely hate that Christmas music shit, hahaha. It's the only day I will to one specific artist for a holiday, except of course for Hank Williams New Years Day. That is a must too!!!

Look I know so many people here hate the man, for whatever reasons they have, but to call him a hack? Come on this isn't Uwe Boll for christ sakes.....You should learn to expand your mind and not hate so many things because they are different. You are the same people who elected Obama so shouldn't you be more Liberal in your thinking by now? I'm just saying..........

I just call a spade a spade, and crap is crap. Theres directors out there that I like, but I will give credit where credit is due, and I have no problem saying whether a director I like has made a bad movie. I'm just not that die hard where I will blindly like anything he puts out.

Zombie is a hack, because he brings almost nothing original to any of his movies. Its the same thing over and over and over. Yeah theres style each director has, but this is not style we're talking about. He also bluntly makes these remarks over the years like "Slashers suck" or "Sequels have faceless characters and its faceless movies" or "I'm not doing another Halloween" and yet he contradicts them all.

And when he does try these "new and fresh" ideas, they don't work.

Why not be a man of your word for once? And if he respected the original at all, he would do some research and see that Laurie and Michael were not siblings in the original. He's quoted in Fangoria saying something along the lines of 'Oh I just thought it was always that way.' A little careless in your research Zombie?

I mean he claims Myers isn't scary in the later sequels, but his hillbilly white trash Michael Firefly is nothing to brag about either. If anything I find the new Michael a big dumbass and hilariouos. This new Michael is more of a hybrid of Jason (tall hulking monster) and Leatherface (trashy family origin, brutal).....Myers was a normal kid that grew up to be a normal man who was possesed with nothing but pure and simple evil. He was patient, cunning, and smart in all his moves. He waited years for the perfect time to escape and kill his sister....an act from a truly evil madman....not because he missed his sister Boo.

Michael Myers, the real Michael Myers, has no motive. No one knows what made him snap and thats part of what makes Myers so scary! He's a phantom, the boogeyman, who is cold, heartless and will stop at nothing to kill his own sister.

Not because he was pissed off at the world that he had a sucky childhood.

Ok I'm done. I have went on for too long.

You know i do like how we straight up paid Homage to the original, he even made sure to show off the palm trees of Illinois, just like the original did don't remember those? They are purely obvious whenever original Laurie / new Laurie is walking down the street, oh California/Illinois what's the diff?
