Default PayPal Question That Had Me Thinking...

I didnt want to go off topic in the initial post, but in the trading section, someone posted:

Quote:
Paypal balance or checking only please. No cc or debit accepted (too many fees )
Now, on my PayPal account (Premier Verified), whether they pay with their balance, checking account, or credit card, I am charged a flat 2.9%. Does this mean they probably have just a basic Personal account - where they are charged differently?

I understand the perk of having the buyer use the PayPal balance, or a checking account, because it limits the ability of reverse transactions you can do. Ive seen people in the past just call their credit card company and reverse the transaction made to PayPal, therefore getting their money back from the transaction.

Thanks.

(and please, no "I hate PayPal" posts )

When I had a basic account, your couldn't take CC transactions at all - I think that might still be the case - if you rec'v a CC transaction, they might force you into a premier account in order to have it process there by making you pay the 2.9% on EVERYTHING.

Good for that guy - people like you and me were forced into premier (probably by selling on ebay)

never took them up on that one - I just transfer the funds to my checking account - no need to hunt out a fee free ATM

Ahh thats it then. Its not necessarily the fees, but he didnt want to move into a Premier Account. Thanks! I had to, like you, because I used to sell a lot on eBay.

I do like the PayPal debit card. There are a few ATMs around town here that dont charge a fee with the PayPal debit card... while PayPal only charges a buck for a fee. Sometimes it can be convenient to withdraw the funds immediately and use cash for a bank deposit - since some banks take 3 - 5 days for PayPal to Bank transfers.
