Academy Awards Best Picture Winners - Own or on Wish List

I recently decided to start a new collection that would hopefully end up with me owning all of the Best Picture winners back to the first in 1928. This collection would have 81 movies in it. Now, my collection will be on DVD and will continue that way until they stop making them; firstly, because i won't have to pay nearly as much, and secondly, because the titles are all available with the exception of Wings (1928) and Cavalcade (1933), the only two never made into DVDs (I plan on getting the VHSs tho!).

Now, since this is a Blu-Ray site, I am interested to know which these you already own on blu and which you would like to see made into blus. Below I have listed all the winners with current blu titles in blue.



You can also list the DVDs you own if you so wish, but we will try to keep this as blu as possible!

i don't get the reason for the poll tho...i think every movie should be on blu, especially the oscar winners (who wouldn't )

Ack, can't believe I don't have Rocky yet. Think I'll order that one now.

I too hope they all make it to blu. I of course can't wait until pretty much all of the 90's oscar winners are transferred, along with the 2000's. But older pictures, I would like to see All Quiet on the Western Front, The Bridge on the River Kwai, and Platoon.

Well eventually down the road virtually all films will be on Blu-ray. It's just a matter of being patient and letting them slowly but surely get them out.

I also believe that eventually all movies will get blu treatment if the format becomes dominant over dvd, just as all vhs didn't turn until dvd became dominant.

I guess what the most appropriate question would be 'do the best picture winners deserve blu before some other lesser catalogue titles' like The One, which sorry to say, was absolutely dreadful?

There are just so many great movies on the list that have gotten bumped by some BAD movies!

That's just my opinion!

I wouldn't be so sure. As the OP mentioned, Wings and Cavalcade haven't been released on DVD yet!

I read Paramount is working on "Wings" Blu-ray, but it has not release date.

I have been trying to collect all the Blu-ray Oscar Winners as they come out. So far, I have: Slumdog, No Country, Departed, Crash, Million Dollar Baby, Chicago, Unforgiven, Silence, Last Emperor, Amadeus, Gandhi, Kramer, Rocky, Cuckoo's Nest, Godfathers I and II, French Connection and Patton.

I am really looking forward to Lord of the Rings Trilogy in Blu-ray. Dances With Wolves wasn't my favorite of the Oscar Winners, but I bet it would look great in Blu-ray.

Question: I had heard that English Patient was coming out in May. Amazon is not listing it for pre-order. Does anyone know what is going on?
