Default 4th of July, let's make it make it red, white, and BLU!

Just throwing an idea around, how about a new buying marathon on the 4th of July? These colors don't run and we shoudl definitely start this one up, to just go out there on 4th of July [or even the weekend] and buy some Blu-Rays. Big titles coming out in the summer, let's show HD-DVD who is on top.

All these buy blu-ray on a certain day make me laugh. I buy blu-ray movies all month long, or at least as they come out. I should just have part of my paycheck direct deposited to blu-ray. That's what it feels like. Blu-ray movies are more addictive than crack (err, I'm not talking from experience )

d00d!!!!!!! You just gave ME an idea. Why don't all of the studios that support Blu-ray make like this club. You pay a certain amount of money a month for membership (say $45-60) and you get all the movies you want every motnh. Sounds like a good idea to me, but the studios will never go for it. Even if they do the price would be raised to like 70 or 80...meh...just a thought...

Yeah, that would be awesome. I'm starting to get good at finding deals though. Once blu-ray blows up and the user install base grows, movies will start getting cheaper. I'm sure of it.

I'm thinking they be. At least for me. I had planned to buy 3 or 4 for the 5/27 buy-day and ended up getting 6 (They arrived today); Of course the Monday or Tuesday before, I bought 3. Then on 5/28 I bought Night At the Museum and today I got Layer Cake and Kingdom of Heaven: the director's Cut.

I have no problems with buy days other than I think the competition will always be aware of the date since it is on the internet and will counter with a buy day of their own making the end result minimal (IMHO)

But since I can't seem to stop buying blu rays, I'd participate again!!

For now I am going to 'google' Chapter 11

Buy days are dumb. People just buy what they're going to be buying in the next month anyway. HD-DVDs numbers plummeted after the last buy day... why? Because everyone spent their money for the month and didn't purchase anything more after.

This whole "buy day" and "Format War" thing is all about getting consumers to buy disks anyway. There are many of those who collect, and would buy no matter what. Then there are those who just get interested in taking up a new cause, get swept up into the frenzy, and end up buying a few disks due to groupthink. These are the type of fans HD-DVD and BR want. They fall prey to this frenzy, and buy disks where they would never have purchased before.

I did it once, but only purchased what I planned to purchase anyway.

Default Boycott-a-thon

Never mind another buy-a-thon; it's time for a boycott-a-thon of Universal.

Default Maybe approach this from another angle?

Maybe I am having a brain-fart of an idea but I thought I'd risk throwing it into the mix. I was thinking mass e-mails of proposed boycott to universal might taste less sour if it could be sweetend up some, say: add to the e-mails something to the effect of:

when universal goes format-neutral, the blu ray crowd will again have a buy-a-thon day this time solely for universal blu ray titles. Do another thread solely dedicated to this end. Show universal how many people would participate. Remind them of the buying power of blu-ray. You know, flash those $$ in front of them.

Well that's my 2 cents. We all would like universal moives on blu ray, right? Universal wants $$, right? Or is universal really so locked into their agreement with hddvd that they could not do this if they wanted to. It's always been my experience that $$ talks and contracts can be dissolved. Like I said, it may be a wild oversimplified idea without merit. But I'd thought I'd bounce it off everyone else.

I'm out of town for a couple of days...good afternoon to all

Seems like a good idea. I will throw in m y 2cents

How about everyone take a picture of their BD collection - tally up their total monies spent on it and send that picture along with the tally to Universal with another page with the following on it -

LOOK AT WHAT YOUR MISSING! With a big ole smiley face on it.

Should get the point across nicely.

It has to be ICONIC and swift. It has to make them pissed yet realize the error of their ways.

Genius, pure genius....If only more people agreed with this philosophy instead of adopting the "f*&% you attitude. There are plenty of titles I would near die to se in full HD. Not mention all the classics I loved in High school....Fear & Loathing, Dazed & Confused, Fast Times, etc..

Tell me where to write to and count me in!

You've made have found this post by now, but if not check out teacher man99's post (#10) and he provides the contact link to universal studio:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=9372

Doesn't seem like enough people are interested though as these type of threads seem to fizzle out. I'd still participate in another buy-day regardless. I'd still like to see something geared at dangling the carrot in front of universal, but really don't have a clue on how to organzie something like that. It would have to be big, that's for sure.

I wouldn't say buy days are dumb, but having them every other month is a little extreme. Once or twice a year is fine.
