Trying to decide which to go with

First let me say; I've went for 51 years without a blu-ray player so I'm in no hurry whatsoever. Just want the bes product for my money. I'm trying to decide between the Samsung bd-p1600, and bd-p3600; or the Sony's bdp-s360 or s560. I know it's kinda hard to evaluate players that aren't out yet like the Sony's so just want to go on users past experiences with both brands, their current experiences with the new Samsung's, and a comparison of the stated features of the Sony's and what the Smsung's have. Again I'm in no hurry; if the Sony is a better product I'll wait till they come out.

I have the samsung 1500, i got this blu-ray player for free part as a promotional package. So far so good and i can't really say anything bad about it, but if i were to buy a new player i think i would go with the sony, but both samsung and the sony are very good choices.

I would go with the Sony just because they are more reliable than the Samsung players.....Samsung players had given many people headaches. You should look at some of the Samsung players thread on this forum for more info....

Howdy, while I'm sure those two units are great players I would recommend waiting for the unit that I and countless thousands of others are waiting for, the OPPO BDP-83 all of your bases will be covered with this boy! Still, you won't go wrong with either of the other two. I've owned two standalone players and I own a PS3. My next and last (for the forseeable future) will be the OPPO BDP-83 I'm a big fan of SACD & DVD-A music. Best of luck in your decsion!

I had a pair of standalone players along with the PS3, and to date the PS3 is by far my favorite player. Even if one takes out the video game capability of the PS3, it's load times was the fastest, it's the most responsive to buttons being pressed on the remote control, and it updates the firmware all by itself so long as you allow it accerss to your network. BD Live is good as well as the Playstation store where you can get additional films and other content. The movies on PS Store are just standard def but it will evolve along with all the oother services and there is plenty of HD content there as well. I've stopped looking for standalones.

Have to agree with this, however I think the ps3 is only a tiny step behind the best blu-ray players on PQ. I've used the sony s300, s350, panasonic bd35, samsung 3600, denon 2500, and a few different ps3's and I always go back to the ps3.

Recently I've had major problems with multiple players including the very new samsung 3600 when playing back movies from netflix that have minor scratches on them. The ps3 doesnt really have this problem plus it loads very very fast and the menus work quickly and are very responsive.

I also feel I should say that I do not use the ps3 for games, only movies.

My 2500 (3600 replaces it, I think) has been a solid performer for the past 4 months --- no problems what so ever. How technically inclined are you? You might need to hook up a network to connect it to a router and the internet or need to download and install a firmware update to your player.

I just want to throw this out there, but often when new players hit the market, they can be somewhat "buggy" and require a couple firmware upgrades to fix. This is regardless of the manufacturer. Also, as time passes, additional firmware upgrades are sometimes necessary for your player to function properly due to various reasons. I'm not telling you to not get the Sony, but of what can happen with new players when they come out. Just hate to see you frustrated right away by the possibility, since you will be new to Blu-ray.
