Does anyone have this unit hooked up to the Onkyo TX-SR806? I just read a review on crutchfield.com and it said that with the newest firmware upgrade that he did not get any video if he ran it through the receiver. You would have to run it to the tv to get any video at all.

I received this unit on Friday from Vanns.com. So far it has perfomed flawlessly. It is on sale at Vanns.com for $279.99 and that includes shipping. I was a little worried on how it would play standard dvd's and so far it has been outstanding. However there really isn't a noticeable differnce between the 24 and the 60fps settings when playing standard dvd's. So far I have watched Terminator 2 and Why did I get married.(both standard dvd) and Punisher: War Zone in blu ray. Sound is much richer than my PS3 since you can bitstream the hi def audio codecs. My system is as follows: Sony KDS50A3000, Onkyo TX SR806, Sony PS3, Panasonc DMP-BD60K, Klipsch VR35 front speakers, Klipsch Synergy series center and surround speakers, Polk R150 surround back speakers, Marantz CC4001 cd changer, Velodyne DLS3750 sub, and a Monster 1000mkII surge protector. One question that I do have is where is the 1.5 firmware upgrade for the DMP-BD60K? It is not on the Panasonic website and according to their customer service they do not know of any firmware upgrade for this unit. Can someone help?

i dunno. try checking the avs forums. they had a list for onk firmware updates they may have one for the panny players. im looking forward to getting mine. so your not worried anymore? have you tried 3:10 to yuma? also, i would think if the player was hooked up via ethernet, it would automatically update the player when needed? or maybe select update? or perhaps they took it off to fix any issues. |

I called Panasonic this morning about the firmware upgrade for this unit. They said that the firmware upgrade on the global website is NOT for the US models. Now I know why when I tried to burn it myself off of the global website it did not work.

I have the BD55 unit and used this website to check for firmware upgrades.
http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/bd/index.html In it, it does list a firmware upgrade for the BD60 unit and it is version 1.5. It was released back on March 25th with a description for "BD-V Playability". It also listed the upgrade as for North America regions as well. Last edited by ShyBoy; 04-13-2009 at 10:43 PM. |

95% of the time you know more about the product you bought than the CSR you call...

I agree but in this case I think the CSR is correct. I have the DMP BD35 and every time I did a firmware upgrade with that unit it was on the US website as well as the global website. If you go to the US website now I GUARANTEE YOU THAT THE FIRMWARE UPGRADE IS NOT THERE! Like I said before anyone that purchases this unit in this country should not have any issues with it being 1.1 instead of 1.5.

any one watch youtube vids? with my setup the video is normally 4:3 when its playing but when i click on it to enlarge it, it becomes distorted. cant find any tweaks on the player, tv modes wont work (hdmi), and nothing on the receiver will affect it. in the network settings on the player, there is a setting to make the entire image smaller but it doesnt affect the video.

id thought id let people know that there is a confirmed issue with onkyo receivers (and integra apparently) and this player when it comes to 24p capability. with this setting on, it interferes with 7.1 audio playback from 7.1 pcm discs only. with the setting off, the audio is fine. its being looked into.
on a side note: the player checked for the firmware and found the update. worked fine. |
