Talking The Weinstein Company Loses 'Sin City 2'

There is a god, the fate of Sin City 2 is no longer in the hands of the brothers Weinstein!

After years of speculation of what was going to happen with the highly anticipated sequel, The Weinstein Company has lost the rights of the follow up to Frank Miller's Sin City.

The last few years we've heard chatter about a script that was being written and may well be the case. But, the good news is, it won't be produced over TWC.

The specifics are not clear but some details are emerging that the movie will now be financed by a private equity group and an announcement is expected soon.

Robert Rodriguez' Trouble Maker studios will still produce the film.

No word on what studio may end up distributing. Universal Studios' name has come up as a possible contender.

The original Sin City was not only groundbreaking but it was also a commercial success. The movie was made for about $40 million dollars and it raked in over $158 million in worldwide box office receipts. The DVD also sold millions of copies.

Recently, the Weinstein Company has come under scrutiny for mismanaging their films. Most recently, Crossing Over starring Harrison Ford, Sean Penn, Jim Sturgess, Ashley Judd and Ray Liotta was dumped at a handful of movie theaters. Unverified reports that Harvey Weinstein and director Wayne Kramer, who contractually had final cut of the film, was threatened the movie would be released straight to DVD if he did not agree to Harvey's cut of the film.

A similar story has been repeated over and over again between the Weinstein Brothers and countless filmmakers.

Mismanaging films is right!! Just look at what they did with Fanboys and All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, and oh I don't know perhaps the Grindhouse films!!!!!!

Why doesn't Disney distribute the sequel? They're the ones that did the first, right?

Nevermind, I forgot Weinstein took Dimension when they left Disney. Hell, Disney should just take it back.

F'in' A! That is what I am talking about. Hopefully they shoot it this year but then again Robert Rodriguez is shooting Nerverackers. So, no to Sin City 2 being shot in '09. I have noticed that Universal has been flipin' the bill for sequels lately. Apparently they are doing the new Mortal Kombat film which has been in limbo for years.
