Default Earth the biography - TV reports it at 480p?

Yes, I am sure the disc is blu-ray, it says blu on the disc and it don't matter now anyway because its WAY too late to return the disc to amazon. I got around to watching the first disc and on a whim I hit up amazon and seen some one say the blu was 480p even though the case says 1080i and it sure the heck don't look as good as a 1080p disc... it almost looks like an upconverted dvd

Well sure enough I brought up the info for my TV, a 47" LG lc47df and the tv reported the disc as 480p

So no I am wondering why. Even standard TV is reported as 480p? Is this just a TV issue that dont do interlaced frames and draws the whole picture at once?

Any ideas?

Hmmm...
no one has any idea?
Guess I will stay away from those discovery disc since 1080i = 480p or I am paying a premium price for a standard dvd

Something doesn't sound right. So your TV is an HDTV right? What about the connection from Blu-ray player to TV? Is that hooked up via HDMI?

Yes... I am using a HDMI cable. my player is a PS3 and it is set up to display in full HD (though I did do a update so I may need to check settings out again, maybe it is the player?)

The Day the Earth Stood Still (remake) played (a couple days later) and the TV reported it at 1080P so I doubt it is the cable.

I have a BD rom drive in my PC and power DVD, is there a way I can see what the output is on the disc? My monitor on my PC is only 1050 so I don't expect anything more the 720 on my pc

Mmmmm.

Mmmmm.

Ok, back on the ancient days of PS3 firmware (I'm talking 2 years ago), if you had a 1080i Blu-ray disc and your PS3 had only 1080p checked on the settings, or your TV wasn't set up for 1080i (or something like that, it's been ages) the PS3 defaulted 1080i discs into 480, so you might want to check that up, either by looking what firmware you currently have or the video output settings seected on the PS3.
