Yea....i'm not quite sure what the bitsream re-encode is for. I just got the Samsung bd-p4600 and it has this option and bitstream (for audiophiles). I use the 2nd one.

Bitstream re-encode decodes the track on the disc, mixes in secondary audio (if present) and re-encodes the re-mixed PCM for output as DTS.

Bitstream audiophile sends the original encoded track to the processor for decoding. There's no secondary audio mix. This setting gives you lossless audio over HDMI to a receiver with the proper decoder. Otherwise, the player will bitstream the DTS core or companion DD 5.1 track instead of the lossless one. You can use audiophile with optical. But, you will be limited to the legacy soundtracks instead of the lossless ones.

Here's what the P2500 manual says about Bitstream (Audiophile):
  • Outputs only the Primary audio
    soundtrack (main soundtrack
of the movie) so that your
    receiver can decode the audio
    bitstream.
  • You will not hear Secondary and
    Effect audio.
