Hi there:

According to the sound:
Do you have a realtek chip? Make sure, the standard sound device in windows is the digital output, and NOT the hdmi output

According to the BluRay Problem:
For me, it sound like a HDCP issue. Have you tried using anydvd-hd?
You can also innstall the BDAdvisor from Cyberlink. If it is a HDCP Problem, the advisor should report it to you.

I'm also quite new to blu-ray, but i hope, i could help you

As for the display problem, can you see your desktop when the HTPC is connected to the TV? I know that I tried hooking my HTPC directly to the Tv and it wouldn't recoginze the TV. I then hooked both my TV and monitor up and was able to setup a dula screen display by using my monitor. Then using the TV I disabled my monitor. To detect the TV I used the setting "Force TV Detection" or something like that.

Right click on the speaker in the task bar (near the clock lower right). Choose playback devices, find the digital output for sound (SPDIF) option, set this as the default, THEN open the program you want to use and the sound should be coming from the digital output of the motherboard.

Yea that is an indication that you are not HDCP compliant. You have to find the weak link that is causing the poblem and replace it. Or as [wEm] said, use AnyDVD-HD.

For AnyDVD you have to purchaseit, or at least get a trial version.
I think you just have to run anydvd during blu-ray playback. It should recognize the HDCP protection and remove it. Also try the Cyberlink BD Advisor. It will tell you "exactly" what you computer can and can't concerning blu-ray playback.

Red light:
As i already asked, which sound chipset do you have? I think the problem could be, that the "signal connection" is just established, when sound is being played. That's what my realtek hdaudio does at least.
So just play some music and watch

Again, make sure, you have activated the right sound output lika PJBBlu-ray explained.
