Default Wireless Instability

Hey Guys-- The morning after the latest patch, my wireless was acting up. It would cut in and out whenever the PS3 would try to access it. I thought it was the router, so I put in for an RMA.

However, after setting up my new router-- it still happens. I used to automatically log onto the PS network as soon as my PS3 started up, but now I have to wait a long time for it to work and manually press sign in.

Whenever I turn the PS3, I notice the wireless signal goes out on my router almost like there was a power surge. It also knocks out my wired LAN for about 20-30 seconds. Has anyone else experienced this, or possibly know what might be causing it?

My router is Linksys.

I've got the same problem. I've got a generic router, so I was thinking of upgrading, but hopefully someone here has some insight into this problem.

Also--I saw a similar thread on the PS3 Forums, but I can't find it again. I don't know what's causing it-- but it's definitely in the PS3. I just tried using my wireless upstairs and it's fine. Whenever the PS3 tries to access my router, it just knocks it right out. If I keep at it, eventually it will get a connection.

Did this also start for you right after the new firmware?

Great idea. I think I changed this the same morning. Then again, I wouldn't have any reason to have changed that unless there was a problem in the first place. I'll report back in a few minutes.

--Nope, problem still occurs. Also, if I didn't mention-- the Cisco Systems logo with the orange on my Linksys router goes off for about 10 seconds which knocks down my connection. That is exactly what happens when I get these "surges".

My model is the WRT54G. Can anyone with this model confirm if this happens to you or not?

From experience, dont try linksys routers. I have never had much luck with them at all. They usually stop working after 8 hours, even if idle, i believe due to overheating.

I just finished testing on the Linksys WRT54G. I've been wirelessly streaming audio to the PS3 from my game room PC for 4 hours, at 52% signal strength, without any major hiccups. I was surfing the web on the PS3 while streaming (still doing it).

EDIT: It just happened. I tried to look at my media server video listing while still streaming audio. I believe it is the Linksys. This has not happened with my other wireless router (ZyXel B-4000).
