Default Are theater seats overrated?..do it again?

hi..wondering if you guys with theater seats found them useful or more overpriced...would you buy them again or just get a wraparound sectional instead?

I purchased 3 theater seats for up front and a couch for the back so I could have both. I love the theater seat's comfort and aesthetics & would not trade them for anything.

The ones I bought were alot cheaper than some of the more high end brands and paid about $1100 shipped, couch i bought was $1000. I know you can spend 2-3k on 3 seats depending on where you buy.

Alot of it is dicated by how your room sets up, as a sectional definitely would not have worked for me.

The only drawback on the theater seats for me is that we play alot of 4 player video games & someone always gets screwed not being able to sit up front

I'm torn...I still want to lay down on a couch and fall asleep to the TV or BD, but I like the theater seats as an aesthetic touch. I'm still considering the couch perpendicular to the TV with a two seater arrangement in front of the TV.

this will be an actual dedicated theater room..nothing else will be going on in the room except for movies, and maybe games...i want the theater experience..but for the price of 5-6 theater seats i could have a huge sectional couch that will fit the same if not more....i just dont know what to do

I have a sectional sofa in the area where I do my viewing. The only drawback that I see to it is that one side of the sofa is not going to have the best visual and audio setting. When watching, everyone wants to be straight ahead from the televison and right in the sweet spot of the surround sound.

Having theater seating allows more people to have a better position in the room.

I would not buy theater seats for like a living room. If you had a dedicated theater room and you weren't using them all the time then yes they are great. I bought three seats for about $1000. They don't really hold up to the use they get. Even though they recline, you aren't all the comfortable when you just want to lie down for hours watching tv/movies. The cushions are the first to fail. Maybe more expensive seats are better.

I have 6 theater seats that cost me around $900 each. They were custommadefrom HT Market. The way my room is shaped i could'nt get a sectional. It was well worth the money.Very comfortable and stylish. The only negative thing about the seats were that they took a long time to arrive.I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Given the chance, I would definitely buy theater seats all over again. I have a row of three Berklines up front, and I'm looking for a complimentary sofa for the side. They are beyond comfortable, very supportive, and really help us enjoy movie viewing even more than before.

Just keep shopping around, because there are deals out there. I bought my 3 which are dark brown, through a Costco special for $499.

definitely theater seats for a dedicated room, they have many variations where you can have a loveseat in the middle and additional recliners attached to the ends

I thought you were talking about actual movie theater seats.

I got 8 of them from my local theater when they did renovations for $50.

They are useful... I use them as a back row and have a couch up front.

They aren't very comfortable though.

Then again... you're not talking about actual movie theater seats... You're talking about leather recliners.

My place is tiny, but if I had room I'd just go with a couch and a leather chair/ottoman or two. Personally, although I can appreciate the comfort, I think the reclining leather theater seats are uuuuugly. (In my experience most women agree, so good luck getting wife approval if that's a factor.) They just look too much like LA-Z-BOYs.

ha...funny you mention the woman not liking them...my gf doesnt like the fact that we can't cuddle...i actually set up my current leather couch and love seat (which is the most comfortable set i've ever sat in) and it'll work very well for what i need, love seat in the front and couch in the back on a riser..now i just need to buy new furniture for the living room

(#3) Reason for Theater Seats (Cup holders) - Each seat has its own cup holder. This is a finishing touch and reduces the chances of stopping the movie for drinks, or people getting up to reach over to a table for their drink. Accident waiting to happen in the dark.
+ no need for a table that takes up space.

that is not necessarily true, HT seats tend to be modular, so you can add a "love seat" to the config as seen in the pic below

I was looking into this too. I spent way too much for La-Z-Boys after I got married and after we had a son, I don't know how in a few years...I'm not loving them as much as I used to (spent around $1,800).

Fortunately, we are not planning to have another child (knock on wood) and I have been looking at Berkline Palladiums.

But the big question for those who have purchased Berklines and such, what bells and whistles did you find that you needed. I noticed there are so many selections....with arm/without arm, with motorized function/without motorized function.... How strong is the leather?

Anyway, this is just a thought for now...

if i want to sit in a theater seat, i go to the theater. ive done sectionals in the last two home installs and feel it lends a much more comfortable setting to the room.

I tried sectionals, sofas, loveseats, and theater recliners in my theater; and I can tell you, without a doubt, that theater recliners are the best option around for dedicated theater seating.

My wife and I both thought we would like a sofa/loveseat combination better, and we were completely wrong. They are totally worth it: you can seat more people comfortably with better sightlines, and if done correctly, the WAF is through the roof. My wife frequently states (as she is reclining in "her seat"), "God, I LOVE these chairs".

I wouldn't build a theater room without them. Theater recliners, particularly motorized ones, are worth every penny. There's a reason almost every high end theater build uses them. I've yet to see anyone who has gone with theater recliners regret their purchase.
