I want consistency

when im watching a movie on cable i can switch the sound field to whatever i want. right now its set on neo 6 cinema. but when the blu ray player is on i cant switch the field, it tells me "not used". i was told its because they want me to hear the BD as it was intended to be heard. my question to you is what sound field should i use on the cable box so its consistent with what i hear on the BD player.

Bluray is lossless - cable is lossy - two different animals.

If you want, you could always just select the regular DD track on the disc and then choose whatever processing mode you like. However I don't know that anybody would want to do that as lossless is so much better.

However enjoy it the way you prefer !!!

The ability to apply a DSP has nothing to do with whether the source is lossy or lossless. Post processing is simply not possible with 5.1 sources since they are already 5.1 (unless you have a 6.1 or 7.1 system, of course). You can process the audio from stereo cable sources, but not from channels with DD 5.1 encoding.

Of course it's possible to process on a 5.1 system - my old Yamaha DSP-A1 did it just fine.

What seems to be happening with the OP is that his system is not capable of doing any processing on a pure PCM signal, only a bitstreamed lossy signal. That's nothing to do with 'hearing the BD as intended' and everything to do with hitting a cheap price point.

You still should be able to switch fields when watching blu-ray. Sometimes I use different ones, such as the THX Ultra2 or others.

When you are watching BD movies, what field is it playing?
