Bump. Saw this on DVD yesterday, absolutely amazing. Gondry at his best, loved his segment a lot, wonderfully bizarre and funny story.

Bong's was equally as bizarre and striking. Beautiful cinematography and again a well thought out and amusing story.

Carax's segment was pretty good too, never heard of this director before this but it didn't grip me as much as Gondry and Bong did.

Anyway will this release by region free as I was thinking of getting this (I live in the UK)

The disc is a mess (amateur looking menus, incorrect aspect ratio for the extras), but the feature looks pretty darn close to what I remember in the theaters.

If you are in it for the movie itself, I would definitely recommend it.

I would not describe it as a mess. The lack of a pop-up menu is certainly surprising, but the main feature looks fantastic. Given that this is the only worldwide release of the film, it is very easy to recommend it. Our review will be up shortly.

I didn't really like this movie. I enjoyed the third story, but the first two were not very interesting to me. The whole thing was a little too out there for my tastes.

pro-b: The way I worded my last post is a bit confusing on second read. Sorry about that.

The movie does look amazing. Its a VERY accurate representation of what I saw in the theater. I would recommend it to anyone who wanted to see the film.

When I meant the disk is a mess, I meant that it seems very amateurly authored. Its just sloppy. Case in point - the making of documentaries are the wrong aspect ratio. I can manually switch my TV to 4:3 to fix it, but obviously I shouldn't have to.

Anyway, yeah, great movie that looks and sounds wonderful on BD. Looking forward to your review.

I consider Leos Carax one of the top three directors from the early 80s/90s.

You should do a bit of research Until very recently, his beautiful Les amants du Pont-Neuf a.k.a Lovers on the Bridge (1991) was one of the most expensive French productions ever made. When it arrived at Cannes, it took the critics by storm. Carax was immediately tagged The hope of French cinema.

Juliette Binoche and Denis Lavant's performances will be remembered years from now.

This said, for a long period of time the film was only available on an English-friendly DVD in England. Eventually, Miramax released it in the US in what is arguably one of the worst discs they have ever produced.

In any event, this is a grand return for Carax, considering that after Pola X he basically disappeared off the face of the earth (nine years) and many, including myself, thought that he would never step behind the camera again. What was really shocking though, is that he teamed up with Lavant again.

Merde is a fantastic short, easily worth the price Liberation are asking for this disc (19.99$).

Nevermind! I found it on eBay! It was sold by a newer seller at an odd time AND he was selling multiple copies so I got 1 for $1.00 + $2.00 shipping and bought another copy for $1.26 + $2.00 shipping. So I payed $6.26 for 2 new Tokyo! Blu-Rays.

I just discovered this title is out of print and the cheapest price seems to be around 60 bucks. I now regret selling my copy after watching it.

If the entire thing consisted of Bong's "Shaking Tokyo" it would have been absolutely fantastic.

I wasn't a big fan of Gondry's "Interior Design" (2/4) nor Carax's "Merde" (despite loving Holy Motors) (2.5/4). However, Shaking Tokyo gets a 4/4 in my book.
