I believe that I read somewhere (on his forum?) that Lucas was digitally converting Star Wars into 3-D. If this is true, we may have a long wait for Star Wars (non-3-D or both) to be released on blu-ray.
Lucas will milk Yoda's nipples for every dime he can get out of them. ![]() |

Yeah I heard this as well - ugh, another set of classic films given the pointless 3D treatment/marketing, and another case George Lucas whoring out Star Wars. I wonder if the BD, when it eventually is released, is some sort of Special Edition version 284728329 and there'll be any footage from the original film left in it.

The Wrap.com George Lucas just can't stop fiddling around with his galaxy far, far away. If the inveterate tinkerer has his way Han, Luke, Leia and Chewie may be headed for yet another makeover. This time the rebel insurgents and the evil empire may be getting the 3-D treatment...and we have "Avatar" to thank. At an HBO after party following Sunday's Golden Globe awards, the director told Access Hollywood that James Cameron's monster hit has convinced him that the technology has evolved to the point where he was willing to reconfigure the outer space series so it could be viewed in three dimensions. "We've been looking for years and years and years of trying to take 'Star Wars' and put it in 3-D," Lucas said. "We've been struggling with it, but I think this will be a new impetus to make that happen." "Haven't been a big fan of 3-D, but that movie definitely improves in (the field of) 3-D," Lucas added. Before he heads back into space, however, Lucas will film "Red Tails," which tells the story of the Tuskegee airmen, according to Access Hollywood. This isn't the first time Lucas has re-visited the original trilogy. In 1997, the director spent over $10 million up revising the movies he shot in the 1970s and 80s and inserting scenes and characters that exploited CGI technology. Though the subsequent theatrical re-releases were box office successes, many of the director's changes were bemoaned by fans who believed that they weakened the arc of central characters such as Han Solo by scrubbing away their harder edges. Lucas festooned the movie with new digital alien creations, inserted a scene with Jabba the Hut in the first film, and changed a cantina shoot out to have the alien Greedo fire the first shot at Solo instead of the other way around. As for the director's other attempt to revisit the Star Wars galaxy some 20 years later, well, that can be summed up in three words - "The Phantom Menace." See...this is where I usually come in and say..."stop messing with the Star Wars movies." But I don't care anymore. GL has tweeked/raped these films so many times that I lost count. These films have lost their appeal...at least to me. Last edited by Blu-Ron; 02-07-2010 at 01:57 PM. |

I've honestly lost all interest for Star *****s.
NOW other LucasFilm Ltd. titles I'd LOVE owning on Blu-ray disc are: Raiders of the Lost Ark Indiana Jones and the temple of Doom Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade LABYRINTH (It's released but I haven't bought it yet.) TUCKER: The Man and His Dream WILLOW Just about every LucasFilm Ltd. production which ISN'T Star *****s of which I've seen and enjoyed I'd buy. No thanks. |

We all know what the format is capable of!
I say original 70mm six-track Dolby stereo *(Dolby format 42) be released on Bluay. I say make new audio commentary track because the 2004 one is for that thing called Star Wars special edition! I say the new audio commentary track should have Ben Burtt and any of the original re-recoding mixes from 1977 1980 and 1983 discussing the Dolby film sound mix. I say the new audio commentary track director producer with cast and other technical crew. I say the new audio commentary track with isolated six-track Dolby stereo score with John Williams. I say keep some of the old extras for the 2004 edition to some degree and make a brand new one that is on separate Bluray disc to full expand and exploit the extras silly! Trailers plus anything that has cropped up youtube be used. I SAY! ![]() I say Lucas should do that for all the original Star Wars films and the FANS after he has pleased us ALL, then he can do what ever he likes for special edition Star Wars series. Do you think they will re render the cg scenes in the sequels for the release? They might go adding more detail & stuff? Some scenes in ep 1 & 2 look a tad fake now.
What is the point of posting that nerd dribble from The Wrap.com or whatever it was?? keep that garbage to your self |

Lucas has HD masters of the trilogy, but he will not be putting them on BD. He's waiting for the next step in technology, most likely a downloadable format. This has been discussed much on the net...but I'm sure you knew that already. We'll just have to wait and see if BD is adopted more strongly in the next few years and perhaps he'll change his mind.

Yes, we all know the release date, it's just not showing up when you search for some reason.
Oh, you didn't search? My mistake. But seriously...Don't you think the internet would light up with news posts if Star Wars was announced for blu-ray? I mean honestly, you're NOT gonna miss the announcement when it comes. |
