Default Ghost Rider reviews

High-Def Digest loves the Blu-ray but hates the movie itself:
http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/ghostrider.html

The latest HD-DVD reviewed by Bracke, Harsh Times, got slammed. I know people feel he is biased, and he may very well be, but it is not as extreme as it may have once been.

with all the ghost rider hate I kept hearing i was really expecting to movies to be terrible. It wasnt as bad as I thought it would be. I guess negativity could bring greatness in the form of low expectations.

Absolutely, I enjoyed Spidey 3 for the same reason.

Some say they are biased, if they are it's not looking too good for Universal..

Previous comments from ppl who liked Ghost Rider and Spider Man 3 just fine help remind me of why I don't read movie reviews. I trust one source only on how good movies are: me!

I really liked Ghost Rider! I just watched it and can't see why people were so critical of this action flick (maybe they read the comics). IMO, this was a very entertaining action movie.

On a side note, I seem to be able to tell a difference between TrueHD and LPCM (during the flaming credits is where I tested them). It's very slight, but none-the-less there. Maybe my ears are better than most, but I don't think so.

Yep, I noticed that, too. Mostly in the music. The part where the title, "Ghost Rider" crumbles was the most notible with the TrueHD sounding more "full." The other part there was a notable difference was with the drum kit right after Blackheart and Mephistopheles talk for the first time outside the bar in the desert and the scene transitions to Johny's big helicopter jump with a rockin' drum kit. The decay on the toms is a little more natural and the kick feels more natural and present.

Other than the dialnorm offset with the TrueHD, I prefer it to the 16-bit LPCM track. We are spoiled to be able to do these lossless to lossless comparisons on BD.

I know of two for sure. When his dad tells him about the helicopter stunt its longer and isnt just a flashback. Also the scene where he first turns into the rider is a bit longer (NICE!)

I've been reading BD reviews on DVDtalk.com and they've typically been right on for me, but no reveiw of GR just yet on what I've read on Amazon about the DVD version...but I bought the BR anyway, hell I couldn't pass it up I only paid $12.53 (after price match and gift card)...I'm still afraid to take the wrapper off after reading all the the "mixed" reviews (cheap bastard that I am) . All 76 of the reviews either they loved it or hated it...I never had a chance to see it at the theater (Maybe because it was only showing for a week) ...my impression is that it's going to be one of the entertaining flicks and I'm not expecting much more.

I loved the movie myself, but I don't think I would have liked it too much if I wasn't a rabid Ghost Rider fan.

i'm a ghost rider fan too. did you get that newest series. I forget what its titled but its by enis and crain. I only wish the movie was that dark. but I still loved it. I want a sequal. perhaps with Vengeance? that would be awesome.

a rabid ghost rider fan just sounds scary.

Hehe, clarification, I was a rabid Ghost Rider fan 15 years ago. Around the time Nightstalkers showed up was fairly close to the end of when I cared to follow comics. Bit irked though that I missed the 2099 incarnation . My favorite comic character when I was into comic characters. Well, next to Doom [FF pissed me off nicely though].

Turning into the Rider [and the first transformation back from the Rider] rocked.

I never saw it at the theatre though, so can't say what got 'added'.

Default My Ghost Rider Review

I am a big fan of this movie so I couldnt wait to get it on Blu-ray. It was awesome when I saw it in theaters and it was even better when I saw it on Blu-ray. I noticed that the bitrate of the movie stayed consistently above the mid 20s and I even saw it hit above 40 multiple times. This is a very nice encoding by Sony, better than their previous ones. Since they didnt have too many special features (which I don't care for anyway), they had a lot of room on the disc for the movie and they USED it. Good job Sony. The True HD audio was also fantastic. I don't even have a TrueHD system, but it sounded great coming out of my cheap 5.1 speakers I can only imagine what it would sound like on a TrueHD system. Overall, I give this movie :

Picture Quality: 20 out of 10
Audio Quality: 20 out of 10
Special Features: 7 out of 10
Movie: 20 out of 10

Post what you thought of the Blu-ray
