Scrubs: My Renewed For Season 9

Looks like Scrubs is coming back after all...

Veteran comedy "Scrubs" is inching closer to a return for a ninth season on ABC with most of the main cast members locked in to return.

Star Zach Braff has closed a deal to come back for six episodes to transition the show to its new set-up, which is still being worked out.

Also signed for six episodes is Sarah Chalke.

Donald Faison, John C. McGinley and Neil Flynn have all closed deals to continue as regulars in second position to their pilots. Faison and Flynn co-star in hot ABC pilots, "The Law," which is already unofficially staffing, and "The Middle," respectively. McGinley is on CBS' drama pilot "Back."

Meanwhile, Judy Reyes has not been approached for a deal but may appear as a guest star if "Scrubs" is renewed.

It is still not clear if "Scrubs" would continue as a single-camera comedy or would switch to a multi-camera format or a hybrid single/multi setup.

ABC and creator Bill Lawrence had said they envision the show continuing with a mix of original cast members and some of the interns introduced this past season.

They should have just let it die. I smell a collapse here. It'll be like the final season of That 70's Show. It's sad because they had ended it so well already.

Glad to hear it got picked up again. Season 8 was really good and it would be a shame to end it now. With all the cancellations currently going on, this is a nice surprise.

It wouldn't be a shame. The ending was perfect. Shame that they'll continue it.

Just end it. I love Scrubs and this season has been very good (from what I've seen, I missed about half due to work ) but it is time has come to an end. Let the cast go far and pursue other projects.

While that was a great ending, I'm rather curious to see if the new interns can carry the show. As long as Bill Lawrence is still in charge, I think the integrity of the show is still there.

To end it with 8, that wouldn't be a cancellation so much as a graceful bow out. It truly is an insult to the season 8 ender to try to go on after that.

If they keep the train rolling, I hope they brand it as a spin-off or something, especially if they change the format and only have previously primary characters in for guest shots. And ugh, they finished things up so nicely with JD it just makes me sick to think they'd bring him back into the fold.

E.R. comes to mind. It went downhill after the main cast left. That show is the main example of beating a dead way beyond having to beat. Like, they beat that horse like Bruce Willis beat Nick Stahl in Sin City at the end of the film. There was just nothing left of him.

Supposedly, the reason it is still going, Bill Lawrence was worried about the crew that wouldn't have jobs in this economy. Since ABC was willing to keep it going, it seems he wants everyone to keep their jobs. He already stated it would be a different show with the same name...

Frankly, J.D.'s story has gotten old. So maybe other people will get more of chance to shine now.

He went from charming and interesting, to kinda annoying. Maybe it's my inner Cox talking.

Hmmmm, I'm mixed on this one. The finale was perfect and a superb ending. However, with all the crap they put out nowadays I'm glad to see something good stay on the air for a change.

Ugh, heard this news yesterday and was disappointed because (as stated multiple times above) the finale was perfect. It cheapens the finale too which is the worst part.

From what I've been able to glean from reviews online, the season 8 finale was pretty much on the nail with its ending.

Not having seen it yet I shall reserve judgment... Though if it is as good as people have been saying then it would be a shame to drag a classic show through the "cactus patch" of a ninth and unnecessary season.

I'm curious to hear your take on the whole Scrubs renewal. The "series finale" was so wonderfully sweet and sappy, how can they come back from something so final?
Ausiello: I would have preferred it end right there, but it's hard to argue with Bill Lawrence's justification for continuing. "There are 107 people that work on that show," he reminded me earlier this week. "I've worked with them for eight years now. If there's a chance for everybody to work another year, my attitude, business-wise, is 'legacy-schmegacy.' I couldn't give a f--k, to tell you the truth. I thought the first eight years of Scrubs was great. I'm super proud of it. There's absolutely nothing that could possibly happen that could change that... On the creative side, some people are like, 'It should end on a high note creatively. It shouldn't be something that taints our memory.' And I get that. [But the other] 50 percent of the people are like, 'Oh my god, I'm so glad to have a show back that I care about.' The way to bridge that gap is I've got to consider Scrubs over. The way that I'm viewing it is the way Frasier was to Cheers: It'll be essentially a new show with some characters that people liked."

Question: What will the ninth season of Scrubs look like? Will Sarah Chalke be taking over JD's duties?
Ausiello: Probably not, considering Chalke isn't looking to return full time, per Bill Lawrence. "I would've had Sarah in a heartbeat," he says. "I think she's got enough going on in her career [right now]. I'd say it's 50-50 she's in some episodes. I know she'll at least be in one or two." My guess? In light of the fact that ABC passed on Donald Faison's comedy pilot, The Law, Lawrence will go with the "Turk teaching at med school" premise he's been kicking around. Whatever idea he ultimately goes with, "The one promise I would make to people is that if this does suck, it won't suck in a lame fizzle-out kind of way," he says. "It will suck in a huge way. It will really, really suck." If I've said it once, I've said it a million times: Few things in life are as entertaining as interviewing Bill Lawrence.

Braff is the shows anchor and the character everything was centralized on.

Neil Flynn's (Janitor) pilot was picked up so he won't be returning. The show, The Middle co-starring Patricia Heaton is on ABC so it's possible he could pop in occasionally.

I don't like the idea of the show being centered around Turk because Judy Reyes (Carla) isn't returning so I would assume it would be purely his work life. Honestly I'd rather they just completely reinvent the cast and setting than continue with a partial cast.
