Default Need advice between plasma and lcd

I've been looking into getting the Panasonic V10 Plasma coming out soon, but while I was in Target today, I really noticed how much brighter LCD (I know its back lite) is over the Plasmas that were on display.

Now I know enough to know that they weren't probably calibrated and I've seen more pro's for Plasma (on picture quality) vs LCD, but the brightness made the colors seem more vibrant. Can Plasma reach those high bright levels?

Depends on your idea of entertainment.

Wait for the usual suspects to show up saying you can get a 60" Kuro elite for like $1000, that retailers are in a conspiracy to rig their displays to make LCD look good and make plasmas look bad, and argue that the only valid criterion for judging TV's is ANSI pattern contrast ratings.

Do you light your house like the Target store?

Exactly.

Ambient lighting is key here. If your television is going to be placed in an environment where there's a lot of sunlight filtering in or always a lot of artificial lights on, go with LCD. If you can control the light in your theater room, then go with Plasma.

I got an LCD based on what I saw in the stores; I later took it back and got a Pioneer Kuro Elite. The Kuro looks great and is bright enough for me in the pure mode.

Whether you get plasma or lcd, the best viewing mode for movies is in the cinema or film mode (pure for Pioneer). It looks dull at first but you adjust to this soon and you get a very natural looking viewing experience. My experience with both plasma and lcd is that they look much better in your home than in the store.

My son got a plasma from Costco and he is very happy with it. I believe that you will enjoy the V-10 because it is very highly rated and will look much better in your home than what you see at Target.

For gaming and movies. I'm not buying anything from Target, I was just kinda shocked how LCD looked so much brighter and vibrant compared to the superior plasma. Like one user said, it looked kinda dull. I have blinds and curtains to help block out the sun.

I've seen some really nice LCDs, but my advice is always as follows:

If you watch TV in a bright room get an LCD. For all other viewing conditions get a plasma.

it's up to you ,go and have a good look at whats out there and do get sucked in by reviews or experts as they are so called.lcd gives you the closest thing to being there ,it's like you are watching it being made, you can watch in day or night ,lights on ,lights off.so see what you prefer, i for one can't see what all the fuss is about with plasma, the blacks are maybe 10% blacker ,but the colours are superior on lcd, and by the way cinema mode sucks, dull and boring if that's what u like buy plasma.if you wanna feel like your part of the movie buy lcd. again thats only my opinion.you need to buy what you feel is the best for you ,not what other people think.
