Default Dracula (1979)

I wonder why DRACULA starring Frank Langella is not out on BluRay? I have the DVD and it seems that the collors are washed out. It is very poor quality. I'd love to see a bluray release of this gem, but I'm thinking this will not ever happen. Too bad.

The director washed out the colours for the DVD, he said that's the look he wanted all along. I wouldn't buy a Blu-ray unless they put both versions on it.

It played on one of the hd premium channels and looked really good, though it was the washed out color version (I prefer the washed out color version myself, but would hope both versions would be included on blu-ray). With that in mind elements are there for a release.

If it makes it to BD, I would think the color washed transfer is all thats ever gonna be seen. Not that it bothers me.

Oh, whew--Saw it on Instant Netflix and thought the washed-out look was from a low-grade StarzPlay print.
Turned out the fault was not in its Starz, but in itself.

(And I know the Frank Langella play was a big deal at the time, but the movie was way off-book--For one thing, they seem to have switched the main characters of Mina and Lucy around... )

I finally saw this for the first time tonight. It was much better than I thought it would be and is in the running for my favorite version of the story.

I hope that the eventual blu-ray includes both versions of the film. I'd love to see the original color.

Japan is getting a Blu Ray -- I wonder if that means the rest of the world will too? I hope it includes both versions. I've only ever seen the "washed-out" version.

I would love to own this on BD because it is one of my favorite versions of the Dracula story. However, I won't pay almost $39.00 for this from Japan (not including shipping).

Happinet licenses from other studios, so there's no connection to releases in other countries.

I once watched the washed-out version on Foxtel and I think it really suited the film.

Reading the Asia forum of this site, the Blu-ray just released in Japan is the washed-out version. I didn't like the look of the DVD, I don't mind them giving it a "look", but it's like they've just wound out 70% of the colour, so it looks dull & uninteresting. When it gets released in Europe (which it will do), I'll pass
