From what I have read, it isn't so much the scan that is problematic but the encoding. Some claim that in the conversion from one digital media to another, they have messed up the color spaces.

From what I've seen/read the Japanese BD isn't bad and it is region free. Certainly better than the DVD. I considered picking it up myself if it wasn't so damn expensive. I'm sure if a US release ever happens it will be significantly better but one has to wonder if/when this will ever happen.

The King Records JP release is 1080i, minimal extras in the form of a trailer and a Japanese commentary track, costs about $60 before shipping, and basically has the same issues as the rest of the HD releases (blown out contrast, compromised resolution for the second half of the film, etc).

That said, I'm not entirely against it: It's certainly a more film-like presentation than Anchor Bay's DVD from over 10 years ago, it's just far from the definitive transfer this haunting masterpiece deserves. The UK release has slightly worse contrast, for whatever reason, but it also has a reasonably accurate English surround mix and is progressively encoded, along with some new critically minded bonus features. If you can play Region 'B' titles it's a substantially cheaper, and in many ways a superior release.

There's been much discussion about where the contrast clipping has come from. The short version is nobody's really sure, all we do know is that the HD master that exists has it. It doesn't have the usual "noise" issues I've come to associate with Italian HD transfers, and if it weren't for the contrast weirdness I'd say it looked pretty damn good.

This article by Michael Mackenzie (formerly of DVD Times) gives an account of the various existing BD releases of Suspiria and hypothesizes about what may have gone wrong.

That someone was me! And yes, it is just a placeholder. Wanted it added into the system for wishlist tracking. I entered Blue Underground as the studio only because all other Argento North America releases have come through them. Looks like that has now been removed; sorry to get your hopes up.

Members can add any title they want...hence the entry for the "highly anticipated" Blu-ray release of Home Alone 3

Does anybody know anything of the French release? It says it's region free and that it contains an English track. I assume a region free Blu-ray can play on any player in the world.

The French BD has non-removable French subtitles and is based on the same HD master as all the other BDs.

It is region-free, though, so you should have no problems playing it.

Thanks. The non-removable subtitles might be a deal breaker.

Mexico I'm dying to be released

I'm waiting for this Bluray is released. Because I think this Film is revolutionary in Sound, Music and Image(color and contrast play an important role in this film). I vote for a good remastering for this Film when it is released.

Still no Mother of Tears BD either for that matter, would love it if the US would do all 3.

Really been waiting for this as well as good releases for all of Argento's movies... Seems Fulci has a lot of releases so maybe I will hit his collection up while waiting...

Is the remake still in the works? If so, that'd be a good bet as to when it might turn up.
The film was restored and shown at Cannes in 2007.

The David Gordon Green remake has been shelved - http://www.slashfilm.com/david-gordo...n-the-prairie/

So the restoration is now five years old, and the remake has been shelved. I'd say the chances of a US BD are basically non-existent at this point.

It is truly ridiculous that this classic horror film hasn't had an official US release. Man. Is there absolutely no news for an upcoming release still?
