Stonehearst Asylum
Hits blu-ray on December 16, 2014 ![]() How did I miss this? I'm a fan of Brad Anderson films (except his last two) and it looks like he is exploring psychological madness again (Session 9, The Machinist) and am looking forward to this, but will be a blind buy. Anyone seen it? Did I mention Kate Beckinsale? |

Yes, there is a slipcover. I got mine from MovieStop. I have also seen this at Best Buy with slip. I think the slip-less ones are coming from Amazon.

Yes, an embossed, glossy slipcover with the same cover art is available.
I liked this movie, definitely an interesting story set in the Victorian era. The ending is a little rushed and its possible romance is awkwardly developed, but Ben Kingsley gives one of his best performances in years. |

I picked this up a couple nights ago and finally got the chance to watch it tonight. Great cast and an excellent performance by Ben Kingsley. Definitely agree it's his best performance in years, although I rather enjoyed him in Shutter Island.
I picked up my copy from Walmart and it had a slipcover, although it's a foil style and they damage far too easily for my tastes, so this one's getting bagged. |

I will approach this will caution.
Around the time of Session 9 and The Machinist (I even liked his two early romantic comedies) I was a huge fan of Brad Anderson but since then I've found his films disappointing. Vanishing on 7th Street was particularly bad. The Call was OK for a woman-in-peril pic till the last 20 minutes, which totally ruined the film and I barely remember anything about the middling Transsibirian. |

I blind bought this the other day at Best Buy. Has an awesome cast, based on Poe (who my girlfriend loves), and then seeing it was a Brad Anderson film, I had to cave in and get it. Anderson makes some truly atmospheric and mysterious films, and this looks right in tune with his work.
I've loved the four Anderson films I've seen, Session 9 (blu-ray please!), The Machinist, and Transsiberian were all amazing, and I thought Vanishing on 7th Street was pretty good, even if not on par with his other films. I avoided The Call because it just doesn't look good. |
