I was thinking about the times when you're watching a movie, and there's two completely different characters in it...but you wind up shocked to discover they were played by the same actor. What are some of your faves in this situation? The first which comes to my mind is Paul McGann in the 1993 "Three Musketeers" movie; he plays both the Cardinal's head guard Jussac, and d'Artagnan's comic foil Girard.

In the movie 'Cloud Atlas' the Wachowski's probably thought the movie wasn't confusing enough for viewers in having a non linear story line, so the six main actors had to play around four roles each. For me Hugh Grant was probably the most surprising in his change of roles.

Crispin was only in the first film; Jeffrey Weissman took over as George for the sequels, with some "Part 1" footage mixed in for the 1955 section of "Part 2".

Wow! I never noticed that, and I always read the end credits.
![]() Amazing. Jim Carrey in Lemony Snicket's: A Series of Unfortunate Events is pure genius, and plays multiple characters brilliantly. And in Man on the Moon, he played his alter ego, which was nothing short of spectacular. |

Yes, that's true. But I was thinking of Crispin playing both Old George and Young George in Part 1, although I realized afterwards that it wasn't really the same as a dual role.

As much as I love that movie, my main beef with the acting in it is John Travolta hamming things up when he becomes Castor Troy. There's some context provided for it when Castor wakes up from his coma, and calls one of his goons on the phone...but it really wasn't enough. They even gave Travolta the line, "nothing like having your face cut off to disturb your sleep"...which came off as funny more than threatening.
