There was a thread about The Alamo's deterioration posted some months back. I'm guessing that's why there's little new outrage. It's always sad when studios don't care and films are just left to rot and die.
That said, I figured John Wayne was still very popular and would justify the cost of a full restoration. Obviously, MGM disagree. |

So what are the best versions available on home video for The Alamo? Since it looks like it won't be restored...
I notice that there's a placeholder for a release on this site, but it's empty. So the original negs are trash...would MGM ever release this on BD using secondary elements? I understand from a film preservation standpoint (what you guys are referring to), this film is apparently fukked. |

It's a shame that they're blocking the efforts of willing outsiders to restore the film out of corporate political interests. They'd rather let the film rot than to risk looking bad by letting outsiders handle it. If MGM did whatever they could to get the film restored, ultimately they'd have a good reputation.

I hope The Vikings 1958 will get a release next year. Twilight Time or MGM themselves, I hope not Kino, because then it'll be region A locked. I think the really trashed bits of The Alamo are the scenes for the original roadshow version that were cut out, & that I've never seen as I saw the film on general release, & to be honest, I'm not that bothered about them. I hope something happens on this great movie next year.

When ever some one posts they are not interested in some thing fans of a film are interested in should really not comment on these threads. It's insulting to the film's fans and the thread - plus if you're not interested why are you reading them to begin with???

Add me to the list of people who would love to buy some of the Blu Ray movies that MGM have not yet released.
Hey MGM execs, I know you guys check these boards. I've got $50 in my pocket for a Blu Ray copy of Eight Men Out. Make it happen, please. |

At this point, between all the companies sub-licensing from them (Kino, Olive, Twilight Time, Shout Factory, Criterion) it's really a matter of when rather than if, IMO.

Interesting. I must admit, I know very little about Blu Ray distribution, it seems. I've seen a few company names listed. I didn't know there were that many. I guess I just need to be patient.
