Oh my god! Oh my god! This makes me so happy. I have the German release and was kind of interested in the UK edition. This is the first Criterion release in a long while that's a must-buy. I'm with the other posters who hope this means more animation is on it's way. I'll cross my fingers for The Plague Dogs.

All RIGHT...one of my favorite animated films ever. Now, if Criterion could only release a decent version of The Secret Of NIMH...

Wes Anderson could direct a toothpaste commercial and get it released by Criterion.

Might be a blind-buy for me, especially if it truly is as tragic as everybody makes it out to be.

One of the most dismal animated features ever made. Second only to Plague Dogs.

Criterion already released this film on HD earlier this year as part of their push for the digital animation market, which looks fantastic, so I assume that is the transfer that will be used for a blu disc.

Can't wait for this release. Been putting off importing this, glad I did. One of these days I will read the book.

I definitely wouldn't call it "tragic," it's just merciless and unsentimental in its depiction of nature.

I think this will be quite a big seller by Criterion standards, it seems a large segment of the population in this country remembers being shown this as a kid and being terrified. The VHS and DVD boxes usually had a picture on the front that made it look like a cute movie about cartoon bunnies, while the movie is anything but. It's very thought-provoking for a kid's movie, but done in a very non-preachy manner. It was my favorite book for many years as a kid. I still consider it one of my favorites. The movie does a great job of keeping the most important bits while cutting the plot down enough to fit in the time allotted.

I remember watching this film in high school history class, loved it then, glad Criterion's getting this released here in the US. This will be a day one purchase for me...

Currently available as part of Criterion's collection of films on Hulu Plus. Great for folks like me who are very interested in the film but aren't adventurous enough to risk a blind buy. (Naturally, if I see it and love it, I'll add it to my BD library.)
