Best news I've heard in a long time. Thanks, Akijama.
Love this film. If you can get past the controversial subject matter this is actually a terrific little film with great performances. I have some Capelight Blu-rays. I wonder if this will be in some kind of special packaging. |

I have received the disk last night.
It is a very good Disc! The Master ist very grainy. Some people will hate that. I like it because it looks like film and not video. DNR is not used on this. Sometimes the grain is heavy. Picture looks good in Motion. I didn't expect it to look that good to be honest. It blows the German DVD i had out of the water. Huge improvement! Comparison with my German DVD: http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/100894 A strange move is the Audio on this. Altough the cover list the english Audio as DTS HD Master Audio it is only normal DTS. The Bitrate for Video is insane. So i guess they had to make this choice to maintain the high bitrate encoding for the picture. So they choose to give only the german Dub a HD Treatment. A bit akward is the choice to encode the Audio Commentary in LPCM 2.0 wit 2,3 MB/s instead of just Dolby Digital 2.0 with 192kbps. And the German DTS HD Audio is 24-Bit. I think if they would have encoded the german Audio with 16 Bit and the Audio Commentary with standard DD Sound the English Audio could be also in DTS HD Master Audio. But im not an encoding expert. And to be honest: This is a drama and not an Action movie. I don't think HD Sound is that important here ![]() I would recommend this Blu Ray to anybody who loves the movie. Without a doubt the best way to watch it. BD Info Scan: Code:

This is not an action packed movie with a very detailed sound. ![]() And im glad they spent so much attention to the picture. Especially because the master is very very grainy. I really didn't expect this blu ray to look THAT good. |

they do this sometimes on german releases. german dub gets HD-Master or both audio tracks get only DTS-HR. this has even been done to the Star Wars collection. |

First, the Blu-ray's transfer seems to have somewhat drastically tweaked the color timing. It's definitely a new film transfer, the sizable increase in detail and resolution are unquestionably of recent vintage. Some would almost certainly call the changes in color tonality a revisionist take. I'm not sure it adheres very closely to the original cinematography, though it certainly looks very good in most of those screen caps.
Screenshot #4 is a good example of the difference. Last edited by Clark Kent; 11-24-2014 at 01:43 PM. |

It is beyond obvious that the old transfer for the DVD was incredibly poor -- colors are oversaturated (so that's where the "tweaking" comes from), contrast is blown out all over the place and actually can fool one to believe that there is more white in certain areas, and shadow definition is very problematic on the DVD. I don't see any signs of revisionism here. Actually, the people that did the transfer for the Blu-ray were most certainly quite careful. Pro-B |

I can safely dispose of my DVD then. May end up keeping the box as I vastly prefer that art over the new simplistic design of the Blu-ray. So I'll have a DVD-sized Blu-ray, no big deal

On the whole, it's a solid film transfer with some revisionism. Better than I was expecting, going off the screenshots. |
