Default Bootleg Silent Hill??? Wtf??

Alright,
So I purchased a copy of SILENT HILL off of AMAZON marketplace and noticed the picture quality is horrible. Looks worse than a dvd in my opinion.
Then I noticed the blu ray case doest say blu-ray on it and a few other minor things. Can anyone help me figure out whether this is a crappy copy?? or the real thing??

Ive taken pics but this forum has a certain filesize they want and I dont know how to make them smaller so I can upload them

Hey,

The stuff you pointed out doesn't really point to bootleg to me. (Well, many blu ray cases don't say blu ray at the top anyway,.. it could just be a replacement case.)

If it's a bootleg it is likely a DVD not a Blu Ray. Your player may be able to tell you what type of disc it is.

Or,.. get a DVD, Blu Ray and this disc and look at the bottom of each. DVD's and Blu Ray's look different on the bottom.

I don't know what the original poster has in terms of hardware but the PS3 will also tell you what type of disc it is.

I really don't think it's common to make bootleg Blu Rays (wouldn't make sense because Blu Ray blanks are expensive) but it's possible it's a bootleg of some sort burned to a DVD.

Also,.. your AVR (if you have one) may tell you what type of video is being sent (NTSC or 1080p or whatever) and that may provide the info.

Still... looking at the bottom of the disc should tell ya.

It's getting to be a more and more common practice for bootleg DVDs to be manufactured as "blu-ray" because they can sell them for more on Ebay and amazon and such

Hmm,
Interesting, I see batmans case has the same little catchphrase as mine. Minus the blu ray at the top. I checked the bottom of the disk and it looks different than a dvd.So maybe it is a blu-ray.But damn if the PQ looks this shitty I might have to get rid of this one. The transfers so bad that I thought I had a bad bootleg.

- One quick question for all the experts on here.I know theres a lot of knowledgeable people on here. I realize blu-ray pirating is probably damn near nonexistant right now and probably too expensive to be profitable. But if someone tried to make a copy of one isnt there some kind of copy protection that would degrade the PQ if it were copied ??? I know im being paranoid but at the same time theres a lot of sneaky people outhere trying to make a buck.

Well,
that answered that question. hahahahaha
Thanx guys for the help on this one. I really did think someone tried to pull a fast one on me. I was ****in pissed. I Guess the transfer just blows ass. Before I bought the blu ray I had SILENT HILL on my comcast dvr that I recorded off of STARZ and that looked way better. Its a damn shame. I really think Sony should remaster this one just like they did with THE FIFTH ELEMENT

If you bought it through Marketplace remember you have the same warranty as buying through Amazon itself as long as you paid for it on Amazon and not through a 3rd party site. If you question it and contact the seller about it and they deny it, you can go through Amazon to get your money back.

Been a prime member for ages and have only had one problem with Marketplace. Amazon stepped in when there was a problem with the seller. Amazon refunded me then they went after the seller.

Yeah,
I tried to play it in a dvd player and it wouldnt. My ps3 on the other hand played it. So I guess its legit as far as being a blu-ray. As for the Picture Quality . Its a very dissapointing transfer. Im gonna keep it because I got rid of the dvd version which I sold to my buddy for 5 bucks. But I cant honestly reccommend this to anyone for purchase.

I have the U.S. copy of Silent Hill too and I think it looks great. Doesn't look like Ratatouille and Cars but it is barely discernable from the German copy and both look fantastic in my book.

Not sure it's a bootleg. I sent this page url to the editor of the movie who passed on to the director, we'll see...

you'll find AVCHD's which fits on DVDs has a hq picture but dvd sound

or it might just be a bootleg blu-ray on a bd disc.. discs are fairly cheap even when you buy just 1 ($9)

anyhow as i recall Silent Hill got bad reviews for PQ?
