Default How do I get a PS3 to output PCM 5.1 on Netflix?

Or does it not do it? For whatever reason, Netflix does not agree with my receiver very much and occassionally I get some distortion. It's only with Netflix and not Vudu or Amazon. When I set my BD player to output PCM, it's fine with no distortion. So anyway, can I get these streaming services to output 5.1 PCM and have the PS3 decode the audio? Thanks.

You want just these streaming services to output in lpcm 5.1? I'm pretty sure that you'll have to set the ps3 to output everything in lpcm by switching it to that from bitstream.

I already have, but it still bitstreams DD and DD+. Blu-ray's and games send PCM to the receiver, but the streaming services do not. Is there a setting I'm missing?

Do the services even offer HD audio through the apps?

I figured out how to do it. When I set-up audio manually you can select what audio formats the receiver can decode. Now obviously, my receiver can decode everything, but I unselected DD and DD+ and boom...the PS3 decodes audio on Netflix, Amazon, and Vudu and sends it as 5.1/7.1 PCM to the receiver. For games and Blu-ray's it was already sending it as PCM since that's what I selected, but this workaround is how I was able to send PCM to the receiver with the streaming services.

Netflix and HuluPlus are legendary for causing audio problems via bitstream.

Having the player decode has never been a "work around".

The same issue causing the audio dropouts is the same reason BD and DVD players suck at sending audio only over HDMI.

When the bitrate drops, the AVR has to figure out "what the audio is". If the player decodes, then audio drops don't happen...cause it is already PCM(nothing for the AVR to figure out).
