Ok. So I spent a LOT of time today at Sony Style in Ottawa and I believe this is going to be my next LCD. I was able to watch the 120Hz and instantly loved it. I think i'll shop around for a bit of a better price but this is what im leaning towards:
http://www.sonystyle.ca/commerce/ser...n100473n100462 Thoughts? Comments? Any disagree? Anyone suggest a Canadian retailer that might offer a better price? Anyone think something would be better at this size? It will be used mainly for gaming and of course, Blu! Last edited by ZackL; 07-11-2008 at 01:55 AM. |

Sony make nice TVs, but if you want the best, check out the plasmas from Pioneer and Panasonic. They'll blow any LCD TV out of the water!

Ah. Yes I know the power of the great Kuro. However a plasma is out of the question because of the kind of room it's going to be in. Lots of sun.

I would rather have some glare then a shitty picture from an LCD. the 120hz is a gimmick, your still gonna have refresh rate problems, black problems, viewing angle problems, color problems, and your picture will not look that great if the sun is hitting it directly. It will look muted. The list goes on... Get a Panasonic Plasma close to the same size in an LCD and pay a lot less for a better TV. Any smart person will tell you on this forum the exact same thing I am telling you. Plasma is the better choice hands down.

If he plays games more than he watches BD, isn't an LCD a better choice for him anyway? I've always heard that LCD is better for gaming! |

Umm, the "not quite so deep" blacks is the problem with LCD blacks: they're incapable of being as black as plasma black. In my world various shades of charcoal when black is the intent don't cut it. And this is speaking as an owner of an LCD TV... |

He has clearly done some research before making his decision. Let him buy what he wants. Side note. My TV has imperfect blacks and slight motion blur. For my (very specific) purposes it is better than plasma. You will notice that while plasmas have blacker blacks, they render less detail in the blacks and shadows. Most importantly TO ME, is that to MY EYE, plasmas look "digital" and unatural. Thats MY EYE....which I use for buying products for ME, not you. Let the OP do the same. Are you serious? Have you done any research into these technologies? Why do videophiles all own plasmas?

I'm firmly in your camp regarding this statement Donutman925! I watch a lot of live sports in HD and a plasma can't be beat. At least for me it can't be beat. I see a lot of motion blur, lag and artifacting with LCD during live broadcasts and I also find that LCD cannot reproduce skintones as effective as plasma. There is always a skew towards either a green or red colour palette with LCD. Remember though...they're MY eyes watching! Others may not have that problem.

You are not paying attention. I said TO MY EYE. Yes some pros like plasma more. But when I compare them side by side, both calibrated, with sources, cables, lighting and all things equal, I see deeper blacks on the plasma, colors that are equal, detail that is equal etc. But plasma screens look like a grid to me. Its as if I can see it using the lines and dots to recreate the image. And while the moving image does not look blury at all, it looks somehow mechanical. This is why I say let the OP buy what he likes. I know I am SUPPOSED to like plasma better. I have read a zillion articles touting the benefits. But I cant make one look good to my eye. Yes, proffesionally calibrated side by side.
