Went to Best Buy after not being able to order the F8500 online and the guy said that he could not locate any.
![]() Now I can either buy this stripped down samsung plasma (F5300) for $685 from HH Gregg or just wait for a future product that's worth buying. Any suggestions? |

PC Richard is getting some 51' this month. I'm really tempted to make the jump (for $1,000 it's really tempting). Sorry Robert, only reason I'm getting it from them is because I have a $4,000 CC with them. If my job was paying me better, I would have given you my money in a instant. I will definitely be seeing you for the Oppo in 2015.

I have to say that now that I seem to have gotten all of the various issues straightened out (as described in this thread and others in the plasma section), I'm loving this 64" set!
I just hope it lasts a long time since they are no longer making Plasma. If I could stretch it, I'd get a second one to put in another room as a back up, but this one was already a HUGE splurge on my part to begin with.... more so than sanity should have allowed. ![]() |

I just tried it again now and it seems to be working correctly. I didn't fully check out since I'm not buying another, but I went further than just adding it to the cart, and it allowed me to pick options for a store to pick it up from or delivery. Maybe they got some more in. |

I purchased from Value Electronics. Paid VE $500 to break in the set, 150 hours, look out for dead pixels, listen for any hmmmm noise, etc. Then had Kevin Miller calibrate and VE shipped. Yes, it cost $500 but I did not have to pay taxes of about $300. Therefore, I paid $200 more to have VE set everything up and ship a GOOD set that did not have any plasma problems. In 2016 I will order an OLED from VE and have them do the same. To me it was well worth the slightly extra cost. m |

Nope, still says none available in store and not available for ship to store😢. I did get a little further the other day with it, but in the end it was the same story. Not sure why they don't flag it as out of stock if nobody can get it. |

They should just correct that to not have it be an issue. Quote:
And there's nothing wrong with that at all. I'm not trying to steer anyone away from VE, just trying to help people with options to get this set. I almost bought my 64" set from them. I even pmed a bit with Robert, and he was very helpful. ![]() I ended up going with Best Buy mainly because of their 15 day return/exchange policy and because their extended warranty, while pricey, covers burn-in. To go over a semi-abbreviated version of my story... Before even talking with Robert, I initially got the 51" set from Best Buy. It was great in most respects, but I ended up wanting something bigger (I was going from a 37" set to the 51", and expected it to "feel" bigger than it ended up). So, I exchanged it for the 60" through Best Buy. The size was great, but the thing buzzed like crazy! Between that (which I realize wasn't Best Buy's fault), and Best Buy screwing up the exchange a time or two (resulting in me basically wasting an entire Saturday waiting around for a delivery that they failed to properly schedule as they said they did), I was frustrated. I decided that I would return that set as well since the buzz was too much to deal with. It was actually after reading your previous post about your experience with the set up and so forth that I decided to reach out to Robert. Like I said, Robert was very helpful. He even explained that the 60" sets tend to buzz more loudly than the 64" sets. That is what, despite the much larger price (A LOT more than I had originally intended to spend), I decided to give it a shot. And with the $500 service, VE would check to make sure that it didn't have any unusual/excessive buzz. This all sounded great, and I was heavily considering going with VE. The reason why I, quite reluctantly, went with Best Buy again was the 15 day return window. This whole thing was my first "foray" into Plasma (and will likely be my last since the tech is being discontinued). I really didn't have much of a first-hand established bench-mark for what does and doesn't constitute "normal" buzzing. I couldn't hear the 51" set at all from my couch. I had to put my head around the back of it to hear it. But the 60" was very distracting. And what I knew in general was that larger sets tend to buzz more loudly. So while I knew that VE has a great reputation and that I'm sure they would have done everything to make sure that any buzzing was within normal levels (in addition to the info that the 64s tend not to buzz as loudly as the 60s), I still didn't know what that would really mean at the end of the day. Would the "normal" buzzing of the 64 inch set still be enough to drive me nuts? Woud I regret spending even more money for a set that isn't as much better in that respect as I was hoping? (which was the only reason why I was even considering paying so much for a marginally larger set). Without being able to try it out first, I had no way of knowing. I knew that I wouldn't be able to return it to VE for something like buzzing (and even if I could, it would probably be a logistical headache to do so, since they are in the east and I'm in the midwest). And there was the concern about burn-in. I know that it's more or less supposed to be a "thing of the past" with Plasma and doesn't effect newer sets as much, but again, being new to it, I didn't want to take any chances, and Best Buy's warranty covered it, despite being pricey. As far as I know, there are no other warranties that cover burn in through most any other vendors. So, that's the route that I went... reluctantly. Luckily the buzzing on the 64 ended up being within what for me is tollerable levels (but I had no way of knowing that it would be for sure going into it). I ended up having some other issues with it that I've gone into detail about elsewhere, but that was fixed under warranty and now everything seems to be good to go. I guess that was my punishment for not buying from VE! ![]() In all seriousness, I hear nothing but great things about VE, and I hope to do business with them and Robert at some point in the future. He was very helpful during our pms, and I do feel bad to an extent for not giving VE the business given the time he took to help me out. It really wasn't meant with any disrepect or ill-will to him or his store. I would have been more than happy to give them this sale (far more so than Best Buy... I'd be happy to flip them the bird for a number of reasons), if it hadn't been for those aforementioned reasons/concerns, particularly the return option if the buzzing drove me nuts. I'm a ways out from being excited about 4k. Price and 4k viewable product seem like they will be scarce for the next few years.
If I can't find a 8500, does anybody have suggestions? Room is darker but does have windows. Looking for a 55 in my secondary system. |

Amazon had some 51" and 60" randomly in stock yesterday. I went there to check out 3rd-party seller prices and there were over twenty 51"; later on four 60" became available and were gone very quickly. Hard to say if they'll have more, because I wasn't even expecting those to show up there.

I had gone into Best Buy looking for the F8500 60" on three different occasions beginning on Wednesday, November 26th. The first salesman blew me off saying they'd be impossible to get now and I should've bought a Panny last year. The second salesman checked the system and saw there was only one left for the entire chain and it was in the company's main warehouse. Before we could complete my transaction someone else beat us to it! I took one last chance on Saturday, Nov. 29th. According to their system there was no stock, but the salesman said, "Let me go check in back." To my surprise when he came back out he told me they had one. It was delivered to my house this past Monday
![]() So far I'm a happy camper. I've detected no panel buzz and I can now sit out the current industry growing pains until OLED tech matures and prices come down within reason. In my case persistence paid off. ![]() |
