Default Does Batman Begins Really Have True Hd Audio?

I'm kinda confused here.... first of all the is no menu other than the pop up menu while the movie plays. Then, my Onkyo 705 does not display the "True HD" signal as does all my other True HD blu rays. The alternate languages are there, but I hear no difference in the english setting, or the english True HD setting. Anybody else have this issue? Also, at first play, my Panasonic BD 30 froze up as as I powered off.... taking about 3 minutes to shut down. Firmware issues with this movie?

I have read numerous other people on here and AVS that when bitstreaming aren't getting TrueHD. I myself am using a PS3 so I can't bitstream, when I hit the info button it says TrueHD for me on screen even though that is being converted to PCM and sent to the receiver as PCM. It seems like maybe there is disc problems when selecting bitstream.

For Batman Begins:

You have a choice between Dolby Digital (AUDIO 1 of 5) or Dolby TrueHD (AUDIO 2 of 5). You can use the menu to switch or even easier is to flip between audio tracks, using the remote. Remember though, that the dolby digital track is the default.

Compared to THE ROCK, I can't say that I noticed a huge difference between the two audio tracks.

The reviews implied that the audio track was superb; however, I found that the audio is a bit subdued for large parts of the film. Where it really kicked ass was the batmobile chase in the midddle of the film and the train segment at the end.

same here, In my standalone its not streaming true hd even though selected. but I can pop it in my PS3 and it displays True Hd running LPCM. So it seems the track is there and the bitrate looks right. I have no issues with freezing. standalone is Insignia player from Bestbuy.

The fidelity, especially dialog is greatly improved on the THD track.

Sounds like the same kinds of problems that hit V for Vendetta. Check for a receiver firmware upgrade

Really? You have title menu? You have True HD readout on your receiver? You have your BD-30 set to bitstream or PCM?
Thanks...

That is my point...I have no title menu.

There isn't a title menu. It's the same as every single other WB title. It just will start playing the movie. You can hit menu and it'll bring you to the special features menu.

There's a hardware problem with Blu-ray they have yet to work around regarding the Secondary Audio.

On titles encoded with BD-Java - which Batman Begins is - having the Secondary Audio option set to ON while bitstreaming TrueHD audio will cause just the regular Dolby Digital "core" of the TrueHD audio stream to be sent via bitstream through HDMI. If you turn Secondary Audio "OFF" you will get the full TrueHD audio signal; however, the button audio in the menus and the Picture-in-Picture audio for the In-Movie Experience will now be silent.

Setting the TrueHD firmware setting to PCM solves this problem on some players if they can internally decode TrueHD, but the Panasonic BD30 cannot currently decode TrueHD internally, so you're back to just the Dolby Digital "core".

Those with Panasonic BD30's can find the Secondary Audio setting after selecting Audio -> Digital Audio Output. It'll be on the bottom of the page where you can set the four audio types (DTS, DTS-MA, DD THD, DD) to "PCM" or "Bitstream".

Hope this makes sense. (And let's hope someone figures out a way around this annoying hardware issue with regards to TrueHD, BD-Java, Bitstream and Secondary Audio!)

Thanks for the response!
My secondary audio is turned off. Still no True HD stream. The BD-30 does not support picture in picture or the in movie experience features anyway.

The BD30 is Profile 1.1, and should play PiP. Do you have the latest firmware? It should be 1.8.

Well....... come to find out that I am still 1.1. Then called Panasonic to find out that the upgrade to 1.8 was released in May 08. They do not alert anyone, you have to keep checking their site. Firmware upgrade is on the way. Thanks for the info! Now, the BD-30 does have pip but not In- movie Experience. And the lack of True HD audio stream problem may or may not be solved by this upgrade. I guess I'll find out soon.
Thanks for all the responses.

PIP is Profile 1.1. Batman is Profile 1.1 and should work. Same as Universal menu system. It's called another name but all those titles are 1.1 compatible witch the BD30 is..
