Default Pioneer VSX-1124 & HTPC question

So. I picked up a VSX1124 yesterday, mainly because it offers two HDMI outputs for my Plasma and Projector.

Anyways, long story short, I have a miniPC (Windows 8) connected to the receiver via HDMI IN 1 @ 1080p. The problem I am having is after the PC boots on (I can see the boot screen) as soon as it tries to go to the logon screen it just stays black and the tv/projector "searching for signal"...the only way to get it going is to go into picture settings and turn on Video Conversion. This baffles me as there should be no conversions being made? Also, it worked just fine on my [several years] older Pioneer Elite which only had hdmi v1.2a inputs.

I have a PS4, Dish Hopper and a Wii connected. No issues there, just the PC. Ive checked the gpu settings, and windows 8 settings...both read 1080p.

Once I turn on Video Conversion, everything is fine. Also, the receiver does not seem to remember this setting so I am having to do it each time...anyone experience something similar? Thanks.

I guess my next step is to try another input on the receiver, but I will have to tackle that tomorrow.

I don't know what to tell you ...for once I'm stumped on an HTPC question. Are you using XBMC/Kodi or JRiver in your HTPC? Check your settings in your media player. I think you have the right ideal of trying a new port. I'd take everything out except the HTPC and go from there. Sorry I couldn't be of more help

Well, I use Plex but the problem is on boot up into the windows log on screen (the OS boot up) leaves a blank screen and projector/plasma cannot find a signal. Once I turn on Video Conversion, windows 8 desktop/metro opens fine and then I can do anything, plex, internet etc.

So I'm suspecting an issue with output resolution (compatibility) during the boot process...but the weird thing is I had no problem with an older model receiver.

Once I get home I'm gonna try to swap HDMI inputs.

For what it is worth. My NR1008 has a Lenovo IdeaCentre attached.

I leave that input on 1080P. The rest(except VHS, CED and LD) are set through.

If this AVR doesn't support individual resolution settings per input, move up the line to one that does.

Yes, it can adjust the resolutions for each individual input up to 4k.

The problem seems to be with how its handling a change in resolutions from the pc. I tried another input tonight with same result. Ive also tried various settings in windows 8 and my GPU, anything I can think of to ensure a 1080p signal is being output. My other devices play nice, no problems. My old receiver with the pc was fine as well. Im at a loss. Why is "Video Conversion" turned on, necessary? The manual does not shed much light.

I do wonder however, could it possibly be related to the fact im sending video to a 1080p projector and 768p panasonic plasma (which accepts 1080p signal) simultaneously...maybe this is causing the hdmi confusion? (although would it not present symptoms on the other devices too?)

I think it has more to do with advanced DRM.

I use a laptop on various AVR as well and a picture lock can take forever. With the laptop, I'll often have it up and running, then connect HDMI, then open the app/website(windows 8.1).
